First Airport in England to go Smoke-Free

Birmingham International Airport (BHX) has pre-empted next years legislation that comes into effect to become the first airport in the UK to become a smoke-free zone.

Wondered how long it would be before Airports made changes for when the law changes, no doubt others will follow sooner rather than later now.

Well we have sort of got used to it already here in Scotland as our smoking ban came in on March of this year.[n]

But much controversy remains about it especially with our license trade.

It's not been a problem over here even with out license trade

I thought LHR was already smoke-free:D - I've only ever seen people smoking outside.[:?]

There are smoking pens airside in T4 at LHR, with totally inadequate extraction, you can smell them for yards either side [:$]

Some of the food/drink outlets in T3 have smoking tables, and of course there is the "fumoir" in our very own Clubhouse.

I guess this is going to have to go once the new laws are introduced?

I hope so, it seems strange to me that the bit with the nice views of the apron is unihabitable for the majority, and it must be a health risk for the staff that have to go in there.

Im so pleased at this - Im getting really fed up with rude smokers who insist on smoking wherever they are in public - its getting out of order!!

I'm sure a much better use for the area will be found once the new laws are brought in I'm sure[8D]

Travelled through Barcelona last week and was very surprised to note that BCN is totally smoke free ... then at LHR this week and you can smoke while sat at the Caviar House food place right by the ramp up to the gates ... how odd!

Well as a smoker I like the facilities ... but my smoking life must come to an end soon[:#]

Great news- lets hope the other airports follow suit prior to next years ban. Having seen/experienced simular pens at LGW last month I can say they do not work- smoke was literally pooring out over everyone sat near by.

If anyone wants to try and quit may I suggest the Bodies exhibition, which was in London recently but now in Vegas and Atlanta i believe, trully amazing!
