SIA have today unveiled their new First/Business/Economy seats, the next generation KrisWorld IFE and an enhanced service delivery - loads of pics and info on the SIA site Here, a quote from SIA below

The US$360 million product and service development programme marks the completion of an extensive four-year project, and is timed to coincide with the carrier’s fleet expansion plan that will see the Boeing 777-300ER (extended range) and the Airbus A380 join the fleet.

Customers travelling on Singapore Airlines’ new B777-300ER services from this December, between Singapore and Paris, and subsequently Zurich, will be the first to experience these new products

Must say - does look very good.

Hmm, pics look amazing, but somethings seem a bit odd.

Over on a.net someones posted a table (reportedly from SIA PR) which lists Jcl Pitch as 51", recline as 130 degrees?

The Fcl pitch is only listed as 71" (I seem to remember it used to be 80 something?)and their recline is only 130 degrees?

Also the number of Jcl seats on a 777 is listed at 42, with 8 Fcl seats... but also 228 Ycl seats.

Somethings not quite adding up.

Also quite interesting to see there is no reference to refitting the entire longhaul fleet. SQ Still have some 777s flying longhaul with Fcl old style normal seats at 60inch pitch.

Oh ... my .... god! I wasn't prepared for just how HUGE the seats are!

Details here for all classes.

The new Economy looks really good too - inseat power for everyone on board by the looks of it. Very welcome, and of course even more leg room.

Going to be interesting to see how other airlines react to this in the coming months. And BA with their New New Club World when it comes.

Raffles looks like it will have made a quantum leap since when I flew in the Space Bed.
Then I saw First....OMG! Is that a home cinema they have in every seat. Particulary in F and J the improvement in quality, but above all, space looks fantastic.
Surely a business leader with these.
Are these mocked up in a 777 or a 380 as the Raffles cabin looks enourmous.

Cheers!

Wowww! Mightly impressive pictures. The IFE in Raffles and First is certainly market leading stuff.

The question is how long before it find's it way onto the 744 fleet. The A380 looks like it won't grace the skies until late next year - cannot see a 773 coming to LHR inbetween... Might be a while before these new products arrive in the UK...[:?]

Looks like my BMI miles have just found their use.... :D

I cancelled an SQ F reward next February to use the miles for a different flight instead. Glad I did now, would much rather save them for when this is rolled out on the UK fleet [y]

(one day we will all fly like this :))

Do you have a source on your info, I cannot see anything on SQ's site stating this.

I have read through quite a few different news articles on this and not one of them says anything about putting this into the current fleet. The promo pics are done on an A380 mock up, and I would also be very surprised if the new cabins are added to existing a/c. Also if you look atthe quote in my OP, it states that is coinciding with the fleet explansion, and I am sure that wasn't included by accident.

Holy crap all 3 classes look fantastic. Though I'm sure this has gotta make the Business or First RTW tickets even better value!

BTW, in reference to the rollout:
From December '06, these products will be available on SIA's new B777-300ER services from Singapore to Paris and Switzerland and progressively on other routes.

Cheers

Certainly worth the connection to Paris to experience!

The Raffles class looks amazing also. I'm also saving the miles for the BF's birthday next year for a trip to Australia and this could well be an excellent use for them.

Thanks,

David.

and the good news is that to fly on these seats, SAA will only be charging a 10-20% premium over existing fares. (source bloomberg)

edit - SAA being singapore, not south african clearly

Just managed to get a better look at a design of the Jcl seat, quite an innovative set up....

Although the 'Seat' faces fully forward, in 'Bed' you would actually lie slightly herring bone, with your head by the aisle, and feet tucked into the the other side of the person in front.

The Pitch is therefore actually quite limited (51")... thats why the seats so wide, so you can sleep kinda diagonally.

Still pretty impressive design and can't wait to hear the feedback.

The F is good, but it doesn't seem to be the best in the world. However, J does look very good - I'd love to stretch out in those seats:D

Ben,

Thanks for that, always good to get a first hand opinion. I still really want to give it a go ... maybe time to start saving for that SQ F redemption :)

Thanks,

I hope SQ decide to either put them on the A345s quickly or fly the 773 to EWR beacuse I really want to try out those seats. Look how wide the business class seat is, the guy in the picture is barely using half of it!

Sarah has just picked me back up off the floor, but my mouth is still open after looking at those pictures. Really are stunning.

Maybe not PC, but VS surely can't have the audacity to carry on with it's claim of the best business class in the air anymore. Sure we will see reference to the Clubhouse' along the way, but in my opinion SQ have significantly lifted the bar in every class.

It's a large investment ($360m) but oh my does it show the thought that has gone into it. SQ were already noted for their attention to detail when it comes to service, and now the top of the line product too.

Thanks,
Richard

The J seat looks great. There's no way that the tighter/narrower UCS seats (such as on the Airbus fleet, or upper deck on the 744) can hold a candle to that.

Power and widescreen tv's in Y as well. It really does look so well thought out.

Cheers,
Mike
