Yeah, that's what really amazed me: 23 inch LCD screen for all First Class seats. That's almost the size of the 27 inch TVs in my house! Oh man, SQ will definitely win every award for best First and Business class now!

I'll reserve judgement until I've flown, but the FC doesn't look like a huge improvement (slightly wider seat and shell over the screen, which does look amazing) but then again it's a great product already. The business class looks confusing since the 1-2-1 layout is obvious for the top deck of an A380 but clearly wouldn't fill a 777 which surely must be 2-2-2? The given seat pitch must mean either slanty seats or some form of staggering like Eos/Etihad. But it doesn't look like this in the photo...

Additional... just had a look on FT and some new images clearly show these as fully flat but angled making use of the full width of the seat when in sleeping mode. This means that the seats are going to feel a little more claustrophobic than other business classes when sitting, given the 51" seat pitch.

Pre-2000+, business classes compromised sleeping, but now it seems the other way around; most effort seems to go into making sleeping more comfortable than sitting.[:?]

you cant say much more than WOW. Those first class seats are just jaw dropping. sorry to put a dampen on things but wouldnt all of this new equpipment and seats make the a/c slightly heavier increasing.
SAA will only be charging a 10-20% premium over existing fares. (source bloomberg
would this price increase be for all seats or just the first class ones?

As SQ will have the new cabins on only aircraft type for the time being - the 773ER, I still think Virgin has the better product overall such as the Upper class suite and V:Port in all classes. What do you think?

V:port is only on certain a/c as well. SQ has a very good prodcut in other ways too eg. food, cc service etc.

SQ will not put the new cabins on its existing fleet.

I have read through quite a few different news articles on this and not one of them says anything about putting this into the current fleet. The promo pics are done on an A380 mock up, and I would also be very surprised if the new cabins are added to existing a/c. Also if you look atthe quote in my OP, it states that is coinciding with the fleet explansion, and I am sure that wasn't included by accident.

Neil:)

I'm unaware of the fine points of SQ's fleet plans, but looking at their 'Fleet Information' page shows 19 777-300ER aircraft on order along with the A380, which we know won't be around anytime soon.... so unless SQ will be replacing the 747's on the London-Singapore route, it's going to have to involve a trip to Paris to enjoy this.

Are SQ planning on phasing out the 747's or is it more practical that they'll focus on the new 777's being delivered with the new interiors for now and retrofit ( if required ) the 747's as and when required?

Thanks,

David.

Hehe well dont forget VS is 49% owned by SQ so Im sure all us VS adicts can make an allowence for flying a sister airline! hehe!

I saw this a couple of days back on a.net- still cant believe it- I was thinking of taking the SQ service from EWR to SIN next summer- maybe I might wait until the new class is rolled out fully. With SQ's fantastic crew- they are onto a real winner-

You would certainly have a long time to enjoy the experience.;) However, I thouht that this was only operated by an A345.[:?]

It is. I'm not sure if the 777-300ER has the range for this flight, but like I said before, I would love for this to come to EWR.

I have just priced VS against SIA for a flight from Dublin to HK on 14th Jan back 19th - VS was £3644 = Û5205 - Sia have quoted us in F (new oneon new 777) Û6150 (£4305)from Dublin via Paris. I have requested the new business class as well. Will advise. Seems like the pricing is not as expensive as we had thought.

I wonder why London to Singapore is not even on the list for the new product - I would have thought this was one of the best routes for SIA to advertise its new product with 3 flights daily - Are they waiting for the a380 ? If so we are stuck with the old 747-400 layout- see the following - http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/c ... E_5806.jsp

I must be doing something wrong, as when I use the website to price up CDG - MEL for next September I get a price of Û12,475, with CDG - SIN coming up at Û10,597. How do you get a price quote of £4305? That's the ballpark price I expect to see for LHR - MEL.

Expertflyer also comes back as airline 'YY' when I try to search for the fares on there. I thought 'YY' fare flights were inter-airline?

Confused [?]

Thanks,

David.

Hey everyone!

To answer some questions here, the new first and business class on SQ are fitted only on their B777-300ERs and will not be fitted on their 744s. On my Rome-Singapore flight in August, I sat next to a retiring SQ pilot who told me that they're being phased. Some European sectors will be taken over by the 773ERs and the others by the A380s (if that ever happens). Apparently the A380s will have a totally new First class product - the Business class will be the same as the 773ERs.

The new business class seats are a little strange. They seem to be pretty close together - not a lot of leg room. It seems that the seat folds down (like the VS Upper Class) but there's a wedge at the top of the bed and a space under the seat diagonally opposite so one sleeps...diagonally.

I'll have a trip report up - I'm flying MXP-SIN on 21 Dec - the inaugural flight for the sector. CDG-SIN starts on 5 Dec. Can't wait! :)

Just viewed the Business class seats on SIA website. They are so big they look like an optical illusion. Peter Jackson has been dumped by the Lord of the Rings studio, maybe SIA got him to do the images and movie clips using Hobbits? The picture of the guy sat in the business class seat seems to have very long black shoes. Maybe they are covering long hairy feet[:?].
