A new arrival ...

Ladies & gentlemen,

Mr & Mrs V. Irgin-Airlines are proud to announce the arrival of a new member of their family.
Delivery occured just after 10pm this evening at Heathrow. The new member announced itself as 'Virgin 816P', but closer inspection by yours truly revealed a red birthmark on the rear, which turned out to say 'G-VRED'.

The new arrival is doing well, and the proud parents said that it weighed 390,000 lbs, was 246 feet long and 208 feet wide. ;)

What's VRED named? I've heard a few things on Galley FM something Red related though I'm sure. Hopefully I'll work it soon, I love the smell of new! :-)

According to the sources G-VRED was going to be 'Scarlet Lady' although not sure if that has been 100% confirmed by anybody.

Waiting to find out myself too! Last i heard was 'Scarlett Lady'. I cant see the name on any of the current pictures of the aircraft either [:(]

I heard Scarlett Lady but dismissed that since I thought it was the name of an ex VS 747-200 aircraft a while ago.

Don't think we've had Scarlet Lady before, have had Rainbow Lady,Lady in Red and Shady Lady but can't see a Scarlet Lady before.

Yup, one of the old classics was G-VGIN - AKA Scarlet Lady. She went to to Kabo Air as 5N-EEE. See the FAQ for further info on retired VS aircraft.

I guess as its just a name there is no restriction on its re-use?

Ah I was pretty sure.

No restriction on re-use, but it would be nice for them to be more creative instead of using the same one again - In my oppinon anyway :)

Yeah, I was trying to find the name this morning when updating the FAQ & (trying) to update the aircraft d/b - couldn't find it anywhere. Scarlet Lady was indeed touted around - IMHO it was more appropriate to G-VGIN, referencing the GIN obviously ;) Am sure it'll be something red or hues thereof, let's hope it's original :)

[:$]"Lady In Red" ? Nooooooo...I'd find stepping aboard that one a significant challenge. One of the collective family groans when on holiday in the carribean occurs whenever the steel band strikes up that tune or when the original issues forth from the sound system...

Im pretty sure i could make out scarlet lady on the pictures. The new livery has/will be dubbed "virgin red" hense the reg: G-VRED

Dont forget about the A346 G-VFIT called Dancing Queen which was also the name of G-VIBE before she changed her name to 'Spirit of New York'

Yes i rember that. G-VBUG Lady Bird. The only differnce between her and VAST is a space. They must be low on ideas.
