New EU Legislation

Just to keep everyone informed new EU legislation regarding transportation of liquids in your hand luggage will come in to effect on the 6th Nov.

Travelling from an EU airport:- You will be allowed to carry with you in an individual container of liquid,incl gel, paste, perfume etc of a size no greater than 100ml. No more than 5 individual items are allowed. These must be in a resealable plastic see through bag which has a volume of no more than 1000ml.

You can purchase from airside shops without problems any items.
The major issues are for PAX who have to connect to another flight.

If connecting at another EU/EEA airport these items must be in a sealed see through bag woth proof of purchase visible.

If you depart from a non EU/EEA (except US/CANADA) airport and connect through and EU airport you will NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE WITH YOU ANY ITEMS PURCHASED REGARDLESS OF A SEE THROUGH BAG ETC.

e.g If you depart from Istanbul, connect through Budapest to and EU state you will not be allowed to take with you your Duty Free spirits or perfume/cosmetics or similar. They will take it from you

This is going to be a nightmare so be warned.

Crumbs.. I've read your post twice and still don't understand it.

What IS the point of complex rules for the already over-stretched, under-trained security staff at airports???? Laptops and shoes cause enough argy-bargy.. this'll be a nightmare, as you say.. *sigh*

and now the EU are getting involved in the confusion..... we're dooomed I tell you dooomed!

I'm still trying to get around this madness myself. This is nearly as bad as when they abolished duty free within europe back in 99.

If the organisations that have to administer this nonsense are still confused what hope do the poor pax have that will not understand why they have goods taken off them!

And while I am still on my high horse over EU nonsense, guess which organisation agreed to keep their "Duty Free" status when they abolished it for everyone else in Europe..... yep the EU commision in Brussels. Nice when you want to buy yourself a shiny new merc tax free in Brussels!!!!

An "I work on the EU Gravy Train" ID card.
Oh, and the fact you would have to register it and pay all the duty on it when you "import" it to the UK.

But it was (not sure if still is) entirely possible for any person to buy a car TAX free in any EU country, register it there as "In Transit" for up to a year and then export it.

It used to be worthwile as the list prices in "rip-off" britain were way above certain EU countries.... but I think this has leveled out these days.

Not sure they've levelled out too much.
I bought myself a Brand New Golf GTI in July this year, well specced (UK spec + extras) and saved 4.7k (22%)on the UK list price. I had to wait three months for it but that was better than the UK waitlists

These new restrictions.
I guess it means we can now take liquids on board from the UK within the set limits above but, we can now take less on board from EU countries than before this came into force?

Travelling from UK or EU you can take on board a limited amount of liquids, there are a few other threads which detail these. Also at UK and EU airports you can also by your Duty Free & Tax free without problems. They may or may not put them in a sealed tamperproof bag which you cannot open until final destination.

The problem arises for flights/pax originating from a non EU airport and have a same day connection through an EU airport. The rules say that you will not be able to take your duty free & tax free on board with you, and therefore may be confiscated.

I work in a non EU airport and this is a serious blow to our business, but we are trying to be proactive and adopt the EU standard, i.e putting your duty free etc in a sealed tamper proof bag. Only time will tell to see if it is allowed.

Ok thought I'd share this as I'm travelling this Tuesday in the hope it will help other people !

The 20 x 20 clear resealable plastic bags are available from Tesco for £1.06

Or Boots do a smaller travel pack with 4 containers for £2.75

Superdrug also do a range of sub 100ml branded show gels, branded hair products plus Lynx body spray etc ... and little containers for 75p that can hold hair gel.

Hope this helps others as I've spent the last 2 days looking for the above [8D]
