Confirming Flights

Hi all,

Something of an "old-fashioned" query in a way, in this day and age of e-tickets and such! We're due to fly out at the end of the month on reward tickets that were amended after booking to different dates and a different destination on the outward leg. The PNR which stayed the same shows the changes, but has anyone with a similar situation in the past also rang Virgin shortly before their flight to confirm that yes, you have your seats booked and they're still in the cabin you expect!

In essence, do people go for the "belt and braces" approach to travel in this situation or am I being overly paranoid?

Never did do it when we were "supposed" to, years back. I've not seen the need especially since e-tickets too.

It does say somewhere that you dont need to re-confirm VS boookings.

The only airline I have been told to re-confirm the day before was Qatar Airways coming back from the Maldives.

Although it was a very odd situation where on your arrival the Virgin Hols rep (and all the other tour operator reps) actually took your return ticket off you and kept them until your day of departure. They claim this is so they can re-confirm your return flight for you [:?]

Yes, my question is definitely a hangover from when I used to receive "proper" paper tickets and was advised to "re-confirm your flight 24 hours before departure."

It sounds like this has gone the way of the dodo?

I was always bemused by the fact that you could book a flight months in advance and were never asked to confirm the outbound but were asked to confirm the return. Never seemed logical to me.

Using the "Manage your Flights" page on the website is a help also.
