Worried about being downgraded on honeymoon flight

We decided to do UC for our honeymoon flight in October - have never done it before, from MAN. The price was only £2940 total for two of us, on a Z fare, which i thought was a good price. I reserved our seats - all UC seats were available on the outbound, and only two were already taken on the inbound.

But, i have read about people being downgraded if UC is oversold. How can i stop this happening if it does become oversold? Would it help that i booked first, or would i need to check in earlier. Or would it be worth emailing virgin and expressing my concerns, and letting them know it would really ruin my honeymoon if they did this?

Does this kind of thing happen often, or am i worrying over nothing?

First the look for volunteers for down grades and pay them handsomely. second you will have just managed to bag a wonderful guy, and if you flew off to Benidorm in a pig sty you wouldn't care - trust me on this! Finalky they are very rare occurances.
Occassionaly downgrades happen it is true. If you are still worried drop VS a note and explain. they can mark your card and make sure you will be OK.
So, stop worrying. You will have a great day and flight.

Sorry to double post, but I have one more thing to say to you, and I think its important. Judging by your sign on name - ciderella - you seem to feel like a princess at the moment. And so you should. Don't spoil that feeling with the bad things that may happen. Concentrate on all the wonderful things that will happen.

You could also check in on-line (unless of course it would mean leaving the reception. You might lose your glass slipper)

Some of the prevous posts on V-Flyer of people being down-graded from UC referred to a time when LHR configured planes were relocated in LGW during the Suites re-fit. As most of the fleet now has the suites it is less likely to happen

As the others have already said, i really would not worry.

With any airline, there will be occasional situations where there are too many passengers for the flight. All airlines oversell their seats ut occasionally get the math/estimates wrong and therefore there will be a few 'surplus' passengers. Usually, its only the late arrivals to check-in who will find that they have been bumped to the next flight, or you may be offered compensation to travel on a later flight. Downgrading to PE is really a last resort and only happens on rare occasions - as Honey Lamb says, most occasions it has hppened to V-Flyers has been during the suite refit.

If you check in early, you should not have this happen to you. Although with Virgin, when they ar overbooked they tend to offer you a 'Select voucher' to take a later flight (which is worth a nice amount of Flying Club miles) and there are usually willing volunteers!

I (touch wood) have never not made it onto a flight, even ones where every single seat on the plane was occupied. If you get to the airport and check in at a reasonble time, i dont see why you would have any problems at all.

I worried no end about this when my first UCS flight was booked and they were new, I asked on here and even telephoned VA, but everything was fine. Usually a regular flyer would relish the thought of going on another flight and getting a huge number of miles credited to their accountor ending up in PE with a free flight on offer, so don't worry just look fowards to some pampering and bubbly on the flight.

Take the others advice though and use OLCI and get there early too, you will get your seat and have more time in a gucci clubhouse.[y]

Just to echo what has been said before,don't worry about this part of the trip.

My wedding is still fresh in my mind...well kind off [:I] and the one thing that I kept on thinking was that something has to go wrong...nothing did...sure we had to change a couple of things,minor weather problem meant that we had to change our honeymoon 1 day before the wedding,but honestly even that wasn't a big deal.

Now I know it's easy for us all to sit here and say not to worry,but the flight's are not in your control,just check-in online the day before and when you get to the airport if there is a problem,start crying,say it's your honeymoon and im pretty sure the staff will jump through hoops to fix it.

Again,worry more about the flowers,cake,Aunt Ethil etc

we traveld UC for the firsttime on our honeymoon and to be honest i never even thought about off loading

all i can tell you is that we were treated so well it made a magical time even more magical
