Maybe everyone should take a stand against working long hours:D

I canÕt comprehend the fact that you can refuse to do a sector as said in your first post. I am sure that you would not get away with changing your rota each time you were allocated this flight.

Swapping flights is common practice within the industry - VITB doesn't want to do the flight, maybe someone else will if they need to get back earlier for whatever reason. Everyone benefits then[8D]

Anyone up for a revolution?[}:)]

Rant on

Is it just me or is there anyone else who feels that this is the wrong vehicle for such a discussion. Simplistically, if the proposed move is within the T&Cs of your employment then I'm afraid that them's the breaks. If you don't like the T&Cs then vote with your feet and leave the employment. If it is not within those T&Cs, then the company is in breach of contract.

And I'm sorry Paul, but encouraging people into 'going on the sick' is just the sort of attitude that is dragging this country further down the plughole.

Rant off

Yep! Totally!

A light hearted forum such as this should be no place for the ins and outs of VS office politics.

Maybe a consumer travel site is not the best venue but many an airlines 'internal' affairs are discussed on the internet in public forums. aca-lounge.com (for the ill faded Indy Air) and to a somewhat protected degree on pprune.org but there are tons out there.

This relates to VS and adds to the site. Personally I think it brings a bit of interest to the site instead of the normal 'Will I get a limo?' or liquids sillyness again.

To answer "we're going to be tired" in basic terms, welcome to the real world!!!

VS are in the airline business, they would have crossed the t's & dotted the i's & fully complied with all JAR OPS requirements. The UK CAA don't allow airlines to make up the rules as they go along.

I think VS CC might have had it too good for too long, the company are being realistic in getting the best use from their assets. Fuel & the security issues in August have hit most UK airlines hard, VS are trying to claw back as much as possible. I think losing a few hours in New York will be the least of your worrys in the next few months!!!!

This is just making a point in the hope that VS will read it & change their mind.

Sorry, but I can't really feel too much sympathy. While it's true that I don't cross time zones on a daily basis, I do get up each day at 5am and, working for local government, you can bet your bottom dollar that there I'm not well paid for what I do, nor do I get any staff perks whatsoever. I'd love to get some of the travel perks you good people get - I think you might just come to realise the good deal you're getting, if you decide not to work for VS any longer.

Recently, I stayed in a hotel in Vegas and the crew from the flight we'd arrived on just happened to be staying there as well. They were talking about what they were going to do before their return and also where they were flying next.

Every job has its drawbacks, and most of us moan about them from time to time - but sorry, either put up or shut up....;)

All I was doing was letting people know. CC and Customers are the ones that are going to suffer. You guys pay a lot of money to fly with us and you deserve the best. We cant give the best if were tired. As a CSS I expect the best out of my CC at all times no matter what time of day or night it is. I dont want to do it because it will get me and the rest of the CC tired which will make customers feel they are not getting what they deserve. I am not asking for anything from you guys was telling you how I feel the crew are going to be feeling. Maybe this was the wrong place to put this but you guys are the ones that know VS inside out and fly with us a lot so you guys whould have been the first to notice. I will keep my mouth closed inthe future.

We are allowed to swap wahat trips we like if we can find someone that likes doing that trip so I am not putting it on anyone that does not want to do it.

Can you "give the best" with a stinking hangover after a night out on the tiles during a "crew rest" stop?

For clarity, I KNOW that doesn't apply to all VS CC, but I know for a fact that it applies to some...

Hey VITB you shouldnt feel like you should keep quiet - its obviously an issue for you and its helpful to me to know the crew are on a short turn round.

I know I go to work and give my best but I always make sure I am rested. I can't say 100% that I will be fully rested on those short turnarounds. Not because I go out downroute and drink because I don't. Because of the short time and and lack of sleep I will get due to timings etc.

I am not going to say anymore on this matter. I just hope that you guys will let VS know if you see the Service and crew suffer. I know the crew will let VS know.

I really feel for VITB - You lot really haven't made him/her feel as though they can't bring this type of subject to the forum with you lot all getting on your high horses and beating them up over this. SHAME ON YOU.

This is not the environment I feel this forum used to provide. I maybe wrong so as you seem to all feel free to do so, attack me for this statement.

As I said in my earlier post VITB, if it is just a rant you want, or an empathetic ear PM me.

So, let me get this straight.

What your post infers is that VITB can make a statement and nobody else can question that statement or come up with an alternative argument?

And this is a democratic forum.

I stand by my initial comment that in my opinion this is the wrong type of vehicle to air this subject.

As has been pointed out already by others, there IS a staff forum with access restricted to staff where opinions of other staff can be sought. By opening the debate to the wider forum the OP has effectively ensured that they will receive a broad spectrum of replies from those who believe that VS staff can do no wrong to those who believe the opposite. However we would respectfully remind all members of our policy of mutual respect and conciliation.

And again this isn't a democratic forum. If anything it is a benevolent dictatorship. ;). Guess that makes us mods some kind of Stasi?....

So please guys, we want to encourage people to air their views not strike them down as soon as they say something the rest of us dont like[V]

Well said! [^] I agree. [y] It wouldn't be a fair representation if we didn't hear from both sides of the flyers - both the pax and the crews. Please, VITB, don't stop sharing your thoughts. We'd be the poorer for it.

I too do like the envolment of all members of VF, including VITB and all other VS CC, but as other have said, putting this thread into a public(ish) forum then it was always going to get varying opinions and replies - and whilst I was one of the people "striking them down" as you put it, it is only my opinion on the matter, something I am entilted too just as VITB is entilted to their opinion, something I respect but don't have to agree with.

Thats fine Neil,as you say everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I feel that some of us on this site have struck her/him down rather harshly considering it is a public site.I bet some of you if you received the same treatment you would probably not bother participating in the forum in the future.

I know i wouldnt bother contributing further if i received the same treatment.

V-flyer is a great website with great people with contributions both from pax & cc and long may it continue![y]

I also agree and despite my interaction in this particular thread to which I was not knocking down V.I.T.B but merely expressing my opinion freely and in both a non discriminating and non inflammatory manner I still say if I were Sir R-B I would wish my crew to be as fresh as a daisy when they take one of my aircraft in their hands.

I thank V.I.T.B for bringing such a valuable discussion to the forum and I hope that he/she will continue to participate in future discussions/threads.
Cheers Wayne:D

I agreewith the above - though I accept that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Personally, I dislike the "I (have to)work every hour god sends and so should you" comments - everyone has a different work/life balance- whats ok for one is not necessarily right for another.

Martin.

It's quite a few hours on junior crew pay. I can't see this happening for long to be honest - I think VS haven't done this in the past because they know customer service wouldn't be the best on the inbound flights; they're taking a risk with JFK and will see the results soon enough I guess.

There's always VSwap! :P

VITB I aggree with you in saying wou wont be providing the best service or safety if your tired, I thought safety on board is paramount and how can you do this if you are tired?. I can see VS changing this again if sandards of service slip.I also want to add i thought this was meant to be a friendly forum?

from my point of view it is the old saying

i dont agree with vitb point of view but i defend your right to give your views

and i was a little surprised at the somewhat harsh comments
but then i have seen some quite rude remarks on the number of threads on amenity packs
so this is not an isolated case
but i still think the large majority of people on here the the most helpful in the skies
and i must add i love coming on the site

Correct me if I am wrong but (all in UK time) does one not leave in the morning, arrive in the evening, have 20 hrs to transit and rest then leave mid-day and get back in the evening? And is this not a normal roster with most airlines? It certainly is the norm for BA.
If staff have an issue with this then I think they should discuss it with other staff in the canteen/pub/staff forum. Inciting customers to bring pressure seems to me to be the wrong way forward.
