Oh no! Not more themed food... and the repetition of a theme as well, it just tells me that VS are just running out of inspiration with their food, and really are clutching at straws.
I don't mind the idea of a themed "thread" through the menus, but an entirely themed menu gets tedious after a while, and they seriously don't rotate the premium cabin menus anywhere near enough to satisfy frequent business travellers.

Mike
I'm with you Adam777, the crumble sounds delightful!!! I can't wait until Dec to taste it all, I will make sure that I report back!!

Sweet go down well with the vindaloo the night before.
Honestly..how about a nice steak up in UC, throw in some au gratin potatoes and im happy.
You know my dream is that one day VS will start out sourcing it's meal service (at least on LGW flights) to restaurants, see what they can come up with for the 14 pax lucky enough to be in the nose of the plane.

You know, the US military doesn't allow beans for their in-flight meals! I wonder why?[ii]
Beans, beans, the musical fruit
Tail wind? YES! Smelling yer wind? [:0] Uh, no thanks!
Oh, please be joking

Actually, Steve, it wasn't the worst I have had and actually was quite nice. It was certainly better than the bangers and irradiated mash menu which seemed to go on forever last year.

Really UC;)
Thankfully I missed it during the summer and the food was actually pretty good:D

You know it's just dawned on me what the VS menu's remind me off.
Anyone ever had a read of the Adrian Mole book's.Well in one of them he is a chef at a Soho ? restaurant, he make a meal that is pretty much bangers and mash from M & S and just comes up with a flowery discretion for it.Now is it me or is Sue Townsend been writing the menu's for VS?
Disclaimer: It has been many years since I have been through the series so please feel free to flame me to death and correct the above.

The only flaming that needs to be done is to the bloody sausages!!!
And no one can be accused of "knocking it before they've tried it" as it's been done before;) Actually, I can - but I don't like British food generally, so I doubt that eating plane food at 33,000ft is going to help that;)[:p]
VS.
VS press release on the return of the 'Best of British' for the whole of 2007!!!
Commiting to the same menu for a year could be a brave move given some of the feedback from trial....[:?] Lets hope that their confidence in getting it right proves to be the case....

I must say I liked this bit...
"The Freedom menu offers a wide selection of light bites, main meals and snacks that can be ordered at any time during the flight allowing the passenger to eat what they want when they want. This service is designed to be as flexible as possible to suit the passenger's every need."
As we all know, this isnt exactly correct, and neither is it incorrect. Passengers can try and order 'light bites' on some flights but not every flight has them and they can try and order 'when they want' but they wont actually get 'what they want' if they do as the meals loaded wont support such flexibility.
To trumpet such service and flexibility when the actual service and flexibility falls consistenly short of the hype really is dissapointing, and slightly insulting.

Well at least we now have the name of the Food and Drink Development Manager so that if we don't like it we can contact direct rather than having those annoying boilerplate responses from Customer Service telling us that our comments have been forwarded on to some nameless individual [}:)]

As much as this pains me to admit, it is no joke. Gack. It's on the menu. [:0]
Because I can't remember what time zone I'm in half the time, I'll eat anything for breakfast - even the dreaded musical fruit. But I'd never do it when I'd be seating myself on a plane for 6-12 hours (or more; pity the NRT or HKG flights, not to mention SYD).
From now on I'll be carrying Beano with me! I may offer it to those in need [:w] but I wish I could also take a gas mask with me! Alas, TSA and BAA would probably go postal if I tried. Beano doesn't work for everyone. [n]
Then again, maybe this is an ongoing 'green' move by SRB. After all, if he's into alternative energy, maybe he's bought/buying a methane-powered generation station, and this is only a way of enlisting FC Au and UC into the program! We must make methane to offset jet fuel expenditures!
Have beans, make fuel! Save the planet, eatcher beans! Ooh, a long-haul? Second helping, please![:w]
I think I'll pass on that, thanks...
I can't help feeling that VS were like "wow, we're getting praise for the food now", without realising how dire the food had been for the preceeding couple of menu cycles (dried up fish, nuclear mash, "puke in a pastry case", etc.).
I fear it's just part of the usual "boom and bust" we've come to expect, and that VS can't see past the end of their nose.
I'm assuming (read hoping and praying) that the menu won't be exactly the same for the next 12 months, and it will change over on a roughly 3-month cycle as it used to in the good old days?
Given the continued lacklustre food that I recieved on my recent LHR-SFO flight (I actually asked for a meal from economy, after sending back the Upper food because it was so bad), I fear that Mr Day at VS will be getting a "howler" in the post from me, and I'll probably question this "theming" of menus.
Regards,
Mike

I echo your thoughts exactly, Mike[y]
Has VS not realised that "bangers 'n' mash" does not exactly convey the luxury expected when paying £3000 for a ticket.
Please, please, please take note of this thrad VS...
