Ozwald Boateng

Viewed this today on the Virgin website - UC info

"The newly redesigned amenity kit by Ozwald Boateng contains all the essentials needed for your flight from eyeshades and socks to a bespoke luggage tag, presented in a stylish travel wallet and wash bag".

Does this mean that the amenity kit has been changed recently or is it still the old one currently being used. I recall reading some posts stating that the OB kits were only on the LGW flights.

That sounds like the old kit, as much as that wasn't my fave - its better then the current Scrooge Pack. Which reminds me ... i need to write to Customer Services about that.

Not sure what's going on because the VA website still mentions the Snooze Pack. We flew UC from LGW a few weeks ago and they were still handing out OB kits but I think they were old one as they didn't have any luggage tags. Not even any polo's!

On the last LGW flight I took it was the OB pack that contained the cuff-links. Not the pack that contained the luggage tag. I may be wrong but these did appear to be different packs. The OB packs had some kind of OB gift inside (Cuff links in various colours, or I believe maybe a key ring) and then there was the packs with the luggage tags. The zippered case and wash bag seemed the same in all cases.

I just don't bother with these any longer. I have so many cuff-links and other bits and bobs it may as well be the envelope with the socks and shades. Alternatively VS could return to their golden days with packs similar to the current BMI ones.

The cufflinks were provided with the Ozwald Boateng kit.1 and the luggage tag (far more usefull) were with the OB kit.2.

Seems like VS are just not quite uo to speed with co-ordinating their amenity kits with their marketing...

It appears that all the bucket and spade routes are still using the OB kits - its just the "high revenue earning" business flights that have the crap!!

In a perverse way that makes sense - the people flying in UC on the B&S routes are more likely to be less regular flyers on a once a year holiday. Thus the novelty of keeping the amenity kit is more likely and the OB kits are better for that.

But then my point falls down if those flights are full of people who fly for business from LHR the other 11 months of the year and then wonder why there is such a difference in the packs offered.

Moral of this inference...give good packs to all

i agree wit hthe earlier post that once a year , or even 2 years , UC travelers like me do like the novelty of a nice kit and really quite look forward to it as part of the UC experience . to us it is such a treat to travel in this luxury , where as you regulars take it all for granted , but being as you guys keep the planes up in the air with your regular contrbutions to SRB's retirement fund i think they should look after you in a much better way too .

The OB kits were offered on our LGW flight a couple of weeks ago, and although it is better than the Scrooge Pack it is still a denuded version of the original. It had the lip balm and toothpaste and a toothbrush - the Rembrandt brand not common or garden Colgate - but no moisturiser or mints. However what annoys me most about the OB kits is the cuff links. It sends the message that only men fly UC whereas we know that is not true. I didn't like the key-ring (I'm awash with keyrings) nor the luggage tag. I did like the mirror and got one but I dropped my handbag and it broke [:#]

Oh, how I long for the earlier amenity kits...

I'm currently in the Club America Lounge at Mia waiting for VS005. I'll let you know tomorrow what type of amenity kit I received.

What sort of facilities does the Club America lounge have? I shall be flying back on the 20th from Miami in UC and have little information other than the lounge is on the landside.

As they were being given out I did say (all innocently) to the crew member "oh, the last time I flew UC I got one of those nice cases with lots of things in it." To which she repled "oh yes sir, we do not have those anymore, however, we are revamping our kits to suit our customer needs." [?]

What sort of facilities does the Club America lounge have? I shall be flying back on the 20th from Miami in UC and have little information other than the lounge is on the landside.

The Miami Club America Lounge is located on the right immediatly before you pass through security. It's fairly small, basic and the view out of the windows is poor. Tea, coffee and alcohol are available but it's serve yourself. No food to speak of except for a few cookies.
The flight was called 15 minutes before boarding and there was no priority boarding, so we all joined the back of the queue which was about 20 minutes long.

Overall pretty poor[n]

Classybird, as Stevieboy mentions, it is self service for drinks, but you can ask for sandwiches, which they don't advertise anymore, and it is usually a choice of chicken mayo, tuna mayo, or egg mayonnaise, but I wouldn't get too excited about.

Personally I like to check-in later and miss the lounge altogether. But, then again it beats sitting airside.

It's a few years since I was there now, but the lounge in MIA was certainly nothing to get excited about.
I had a layover of a few hours, and back then there was a swimming pool on the roof of the airport. I don't remember how to get to it now, but I'm sure the Airport info service would be able to tell you if it was still available. Certainly beat the lounge.
