Now. That would be something.

Would they end-up Star or SkyTeam or oddly both?

Who knows, I guess it comes down to how UA reacts....Of course this is still an offer, DL needs to accept it first.

in the end though it's not down to what DL wants, it is what the creditors want.

Hmmm...I wonder that would do for american (and world) aviation?[:?]

They don't have much of a choice oas to what name to operate under as neither airline is renowned for its service...well, not in a positive way;)

Well Delta probably has the better brand recognition world wide.

As to what it would do for US aviation..mmm not a whole lot, they both are very built up on the coasts with not a whole lot in the middle. They both run the Boston-New York-Washington shuttles which could cause an issue.

The other thing to think about is the fact that US/HP are still merging, could the US management team take this on as well ?

The thread on A'Net was actually pretty good on the subject.

The BOS-LGA-DCA shuttles are both normally pretty full. DL has the Marine terminal at LGA which is pretty much Shuttle flights only. Could be an issue but I quite like the idea of moving the US Airways Shuttle to the C Pier at DCA and the US Airways Shuttle to the Marine Terminal at LGA so both the shuttles are next to each other and then offer every half hour service. You can buy ticket packs on the shuttle routes that are valid on both US and DL; sort like SIN-KUL and SQ/MH.

Also US has a huge relationship with UA. UA Redcarpet members can use US Chairmen lounges. DL lounge members can use CO and NW lounges. Wonder if US and DL merged if basically everyone and use everyones lounge?

Then there is the issue of marketing partners. UA/US are tight in the department.

US also has LAS, PHX and Coloumbus inland.

I think their route structures are pretty complementary with not a great deal of overlap so Dave is right, not a lot will happen I doubt. Well, they won't create a mega-hub or anything like that AFAIK.[:?]
