I take it MGM group made the decision now that they own the Mandalay resorts to pull the two hotel's down.

Yeah..sorry Phil..I am living in the past, until a couple of years ago I still referred to the then Mandalay group as Circus Circus [:I]

We stayed at the Excalibur a few years back, we were taking our daughter, son-in-law and our two grankids to Vegas for the grandkids first visit and we let them choose he hotel. The Excalibur semed to be the only themed hotel that catered for kids. They enjoyed it enormously and the staff in costume were all fantastic. As I said, that was a good few years ago and when we had a quick look in a couple of trips back it is looking very old and tired now.

MGM seem to be intent on moving their base up-market, not only with the larger "resort" hotels but also with the trend for smaller boutique hotels within their larger hotels, they have the Four Seasons and THEHotel at the Mandalay Bay; Skylofts and Signature at the MGM Grand and plans for a c.500 room Mandarin Oriental [^]

Thanks for that link Phil, I had not visited that site before, it made an interesting read [y]

On my one and only LV visit the Excalibur had just opened, but as it was stuck out on it's own we never visited,I take it LV has expanded a bit since 1990:Doh and circus circus was a dump back then as well.

The MO is to be part of the enormous MGM CityCentre development that's under (24 hr) construction at the moment. There's currently a marketing suite at the Bellagio with a mock up of how the entire complex will look when it's completed (it looked pretty impressive when we took a look at it). It's being marketed pretty aggressively -residences for sale in addition to the hotels that are being developed etc etc (with correspondingly exorbitant price tags!![:0]) - I just wonderwhat Mr Wynn will do next??

Ah, I wondered what that huge construction site was.

From the way Mr Wynn goes through funds, we can only assume he's heard the rumour that there are no pockets in shrouds [:I]

Course what they Vegas really needs is a Star Wars hotel and casino - comeon George get your finger out.

Oh lordy now you're talking!! i can see it now!! They could have a real Emerald Cafe with the Mos Eisley Cantina band and everything!! :)

Thanks,
Sarah

I like the way you're thinking [y]

Also a Death Star that explodes in the car park every evening.

I lived in Vegas for two years and have to agree with the sentiments posted abaove - both Circus Circus and Excalibur are well and truly past their prime. Our travel centre put me in Excalibur for two nights in August - never again!!!! Our US cousins lap up the King Arthur theme though....

OTOH, I have to say that the adventure dome in Circus Circus was good value, and the kids had a pretty good time.

Worst night staying on the Strip? Luxor - by a country mile. Dirty and poorly kept, with average quality rooms and very unhelpful staff. The valet parking blokes left my soft-top outside in the rain with the roof down!!!!

Cheers
