Just checked in for a flight from NRT to SIN and saw the long queue for Y check-in so I thought I would use my recently acquired FC status to cut my waiting time.
Mentioned to the entrance 'guard' that I wa VS gold and they let me in to the Raffles check in. Great, I thought.
Unusually for me my luggage was quite heavy at just over 30kg for reasons that I won;t bore you with. The check in agent saw the weight and took in a deep breath. She then said that just this once she would let me 'get away' with this. I should have smiled at this point and said "thanks very much", but instead I said "actually I am allowed to have an extra 20kg per flight that I take with SQ because I am VS gold. There then followed a lot of scurrying around from desk to desk and then on to the supervisor who eventually returned and said that they did not know anything about this. EVen after they had checked the japanese virgin website. They let me 'get away' with it anyway.

I had checked the website this morning and the uk version at least does mention this particular perk when travelling with SQ. I know I should have kept my mouth **** in the first place, btu have any of you come across any other instances?

I had exactly the same problem back in April flying SQ from SGN to SIN.

We were considerably over the standard allowance and were relying on the additional Au allowance. Flashing my VS Au card did nothing and was greeted with confusion as it was pointed out to me that VS were not part of the STAR alliance. I pointed out to them that in fact the relationship was even closer as SQ owned 49% of VS. No dice. They eventually 'let us off' with the a certain amount but we still had to remove about 5kg before they relented.

I know the ground staff were not SQ - they were Vietnam Airlines but even the SQ supervisor seemed oblivious of the arrangment.

I don't think you should have kept your mouth shut at all. If it's a perk, you're certainly within your right to take advantage of it:D

If this situation crops up again I will make sure I take a printout of the website.

One thing struck me though. At no point was I asked to show my Au card, even when walking straight down the raffles check-in line.

I've been refused entry to the Silver Kris lounge in Changi by an SQ agent who claimed I shouldn't have been allowed in. I toyed with the idea of dragging her to an internet terminal and showing her the webpage but I was too tired to bother.

In South Africa earlier this year, on several internal flights with SAA, all I got was blank looks when showing my VS Gold card. Not even recognised let alone welcomed!

Really annoys me when this sort of thing happens...

Sorry to hear that happened to you Chris.

I did read the Virgin conditions a few times and I was under the impression that the FC Gold did not get you into the Silver Kris lounge at Changi airport. They seem to have deliberately left out a few of the SQ destinations and Singapore is one of them.

I have not yet read about the perks we get on SAA flights. What is available for us?

The wording on the VS web site regarding accessing the Kris lounge is not very clear:

If you're travelling in Upper Class on Virgin Atlantic, you can access Singapore Airlines' Raffles Class area of the Silver Kris Lounge located in Singapore Changi Airport at terminal 2 and the Raffles Class area of Silver Kris lounges around the world.*

*Available in Amsterdam, Brisbane, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Osaka, London Heathrow, Melbourne, Manila, Penang, Perth, San Francisco, Sydney, Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo

....as if your flying in J on VS, you wont be anywhere near Singapore Changi Airport. The only airports you would get the chance to access a Kris lounge would be those in bold (most of which have a VS Clubhouse anyway) [:?]

The other benefits are:

Whichever class you fly in, you automatically receive priority airport standby and priority boarding, plus priority baggage loading and an additional 20kg excess baggage allowance.

Flying Club Gold members travelling on Singapore Airlines in Economy class, can use the Singapore Airlines Raffles (Business) Class check in counters and relax in either their Premier Lounge or the Raffles Class area of Silver Kris Lounges around the world.*

I don't think there can be any other answer than "yes".

However Mitchja is right in that I also do not understand how you would take advantage of using the Changi lounges whilst flying VS J. But this is different to your and G-NIUS's situations in which you were flying SIA and wanted to use you gold VS status for lounge access and luggage allowance.

That would appear to be it, wouldn't it? I was flying out of Singapore in Economy on Singapore Airlines. Should I not have been able to use the lounge?

I'm pretty sure you should be able to use the Premier Lounge, but not the Raffles area of Silver Kris - at least, that's what Jonathan found when we were in SIN the other year. As far as I understand it, the asterisk is supposed to denote that Raffles class is "Available in Amsterdam, Brisbane, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Osaka, London Heathrow, Melbourne, Manila, Penang, Perth, San Francisco, Sydney, Seoul, Taipei and Tokyo" and in other locations it's Premier Lounge.

SQ don't even know their own internal policies never mind what benefits are due members of partner programs.

We recently moved to Australia, SQ in London told us we could have an extra 20Kg each as a migration allowance. We pitched up at LHR with about 75Kg total. No problem at LHR at all, check in agent told us he would add additional notes to our bookings. Spent a few days in singapore and went to fly onto Oz. Check-in agent denied any knowledge of extra allowance, checked with supervisor, he denied any knowledge. Denied that there we any additional notes on our account. We pointed out we had checked with SQ London, check-in agent said London can say whatever they want, you are in singapore now. Enuf said. Eventually though we got the bags on. Seems we were allowed "get away" with it too.

Sorry to be thick but just to clarify....

As Virgin AU if I travel on a Y class VS code flight to SIN operated by SA, am I right in thinking I should get

a) Use of the Virgin Clubouse at LHR for me and a guest
b) Enhanced baggage allowance both ways
c) Use of the Premier Lounge at SIN ?

I travelled back to SIN last Saturday from LHR on SQ in Y

After checking out the SQ lounge I decided to try and enter the CH. The door staff were not sure so I passed my card to a supervisor who went off to check it out. Whilst this was happening the door staff checked in their handbook and I was informed that VS Golds travelling on SQ flights (any class) may enter the CH with one guest but they cannot take a guest into the SQ lounge.

This was the fist time I have been in the CH since it reopened - what can say WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW :)

This is good to know - but the fact it's not specified anyway on : http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... /index.jsp is rather alarming. The fact it's not listed is disconcerting considering the problems the original poster had with documented beneifts that weren't known about.

Thanks,

David.
