At LHR yesterday in the BA F lounge in T4 I noticed the guy sitting next to me had a Flying CLub baggage tag but it was black, quite a bit darker than the VS Silver card here:

I have done a quick search but can't find anything on "Flying Club Black" etc etc. Just the dodgy spotlights playing up or is there a small group of select Golds? I've heard mention of v50 but don't know what it is!

There is a small (ish) group of very frequent flyers who have a status above gold, sometimes referred to as V50. There is no card, no baggage labels, no membership pack. If you reach that level you just know.

Are you sure you didn't see a black membership of v-flyer. You weren't to know but the label would look very similar to a VS Black were there to be such a thing ;)

Are you sure it was not our own super V-Flyer Black tag?? :-) :-0

V50 or VS50 is the name given to the top fliers with Virgin. The exact qualification level and requirements aren't known, but I understand that if you attain this level you should notice a move to a much more personal service from the airline. I've not heard any mention of luggage tags etc being given out - my guess would be dodgy spotlights or the card is well used and faded.

I did wonder that but it looked just like the card design listed with profiles. There was a touch of red in the top corner.

I'll put it down to dodgy spotlights as I'd been drinking water and OJ all day ;)

Me being completely nosey here....[:I] Has anyone been acknowledged by VS as being part of said club, either currently or in the past??? :D

Any members who have, were there to be any, which there may or may not be (not that I mean to imply there are, nor that there are not) tend to keep it to themselves, or would do if they had been so invited. Nor, to my knowledge, have VS ever confirmed that such a membership exists, and nor have they not.

So to answer your question, yes, by which I mean no.

It was mentioned within our company by a senior VP who is British, has his family in the UK and works in the Bay Area, so travels to and from SFO a lot.

I suspect he qualified.

He used it as an example to kick off our Elite Customer programme.

So, it exists, and there are probably one or two members on these very forums.. but they are unlikely to shout about it.

I think I posted this somewhere, but on a recent flight I got talking to a guy that flys LHR - SFO - LHR - HKG - LHR in UC every week 3 weeks a month..for work, yes he is one, no he wasn't been asked by VS about the amenity packs before they changed them to the scrooge packs, but he didn't care either, because lets face it, when ou take that many flights there are only so many amenity packs/ ninja suits you can fit into a house.

He doesnt need it. He's looked after by the best at Premier as it is - without having to earn 100+ TPS for the pleasure!

Mooted requirements for V50/GBTOP status is earning 100TPS a year (75% from VS metal minimum) and benefits include your own account manager/handler.

Thanks,
Sarah

There are a number of V50's who view/use the forums, but they choose not to reveal their identity which I fully support.

Sarah is correct about the V50 requirements, they were changed down about 18 months ago. And no there aren't 50 members.

Thanks,
Richard
