Problem at ticket machines

I have a problem using my amex card to pay for car parking tickets at a couple of the car parks around Aberdeen. Wheneer i put my card in to pay a message appears saying the card is not yet valid, i then have to use another card to pay for this. Has anyone else come across this problem and got a solution?

Yes - this has happened to me at an NCP car park in London - in spite of the Amex symbol appearing on the list of accepted cards !

Is this because it is an MBNA Amex? Does anyone know if a "real" Amex card works?

My MBNA Amex has always worked in any car park machine I've used - maybe its a faulty card??
