I have an upcoming Y flight and as there is zero chance of using either miles or money to get a PE/UC seat (no availability at all) I figured I'd try the Kosher meal on the off chance that it is better than the usual fare.

Does anyone have any experience of the Kosher meals.

My colleague wouldn't recommend it as it is standard across airlines and fairly bland - normally provided by http://www.hermolis.com/home.htm. You might want to try the Hindu option. Or bring your own food.

Sorry Keith there are no bacon butties in Y so this doesn't actually help. Fortunately the OP is not asking seeking to keep kosher due to religious requirements. If he were your advice would still be unhelpful as bacon comes from pigs and is therefore not kosher and therefore would be forbidden.

Ok before this thread becomes a total slap Porsche around thread again.

Porsche, were you trying to be funny or did you miss the relevance to the Kosher meal?

Back on topic

Decker's suggestion of the Hindu meal is a good one, it is normally not to bad.

I remember chatting to one of the crew on my last VS flight who said she thought the kosher meals were the best Y meals there were.

Mrs JP has ordered the Asian veggy meals on BA recently when down the back and they have been rather good curries[y]

Bland meal (BLML) also look rather good in my humble opinion. Chicken, rice and veg!

Bear in mind that ordering a SPML will pretty much guarantee that you will not get op-uppped. They cost a fortune, i think it was something like £30 upwards for a Vegetarian meal.

Thanks,
Sarah

To be honest i see nothing wrong with the usual Y offerings, the food is far better than most airlines - as crew we eat them all the time! plus you may get missed when it comes to wine with your meal (although this SHOULD not happen). In terms of quantity kosher is the best as they seem to have the most on the tray... although delivering SPMLs for the sake off it annoys the hell outa us crew it takes long enough to do the genuine ones, so not something id recomend!

Was not having any go at anybody at all - In fact I thought the butty was available throughout the aircraft - All I meant was I knew nothing about the Kosher meal at all.

I aggree too, but I bet the poor guy wishes he'd never asked now...

If you're not bothered about an upgrade, I too would go for a Hindu Vegetarian option, that said standard everyday meat currys in Y have always been the best food I've had there. Hopefully they'll have one as an option.

Spot on GJ, whatever meal is served, it is still being served to the CUSTOMER.

Let us know what the meal was like please Adam?

Oh boo hoo hoo. If you offer special meals, you should serve them with a smile to anyone who orders one, for whatever reason. Full stop.

Actually I changed my preference back to the regular offering and ate before the flight as I wanted to try to get as much sleep as possible.

Two solid hours of turbulence in a completely full aircraft meant sleep was sadly impossible and I self-medicated myself to sleep with the assistance of messers Smirnoff and Tonic. If there was ever an advert for the UC cabin it is being stuck in the Y cabin for a sleepless turbulent night.

I flew UC in Jan and had an OK meal, but would have prefered to see Bangers and Mash on the menu?

We had what the chap next to me call "Ponced up chicken", I think he was a bit miffed that he had paid to upgrade and all he got was chicken in a sauce?

Keep the menu plain and simple in all classes and I think everyone will be happy?

Not saying we cant be bothered or that it would not be served in a professionl manner, but it is Y class and if its full and we got 80 kids meals to dish out then 40 medical meals people have to wait even longer to get served, we simply dont have the time or crew to hand deliver too many meals, also folk are left with their trays for hours because of this which is one of the most common complaints! Not moaning just saying in my opinion that if you dont require one its best to stick with the normal food, although i guess one more wont hurt!:)
