Hi,

Just trying to book flights and hotel accommodation for my parents coming out to see me in AKL.

Looks like we're going to book a Great Escapade fare for them, stopping at HK & SYD. The first person I spoke to at VH said the flight upgrade to PE for LHR-HK-SYD would be £310....I'm now on hold to someone that's told me that the upgrade is £310 each sector ie: LHR-HK-SYD would be £610 pp.

Does anyone know who's right?

Thanks

Hi,

I am sure the 2nd person is correct, they class the LON-HKG-SYD as 2 sectors, hence £310 per sector. Sorry [:I]

On the topic of RTW fares it would seem you might benefit from the cheaper mini version of The Great Escapade. This is a RTW fare with VS and Air NZ only and allows two stopovers; one in Asia and one in the US (or both in either regions). But you can visit both Oz and New Zealand for about £50 extra. So your folks could fly LHR-HKG-SYD with VS then onto AKL with Air NZ before returning back to the UK direct with Air NZ either via HKG again or LAX.

The Great Escapade allows unlimited stopovers for under 29,000 miles - great if you are thinking of flying around Asia on SQ - but unless your parents are planning to visit many more places it might be worth considering this cheaper RTW alternative.

Thanks,

My brain's gone to mince, I've looked at so many fare combos.

The quote I ended up with from VH was:
LHR-HK VS 3 nts Intercontinal + airport transfer
HK-SYD VS 3 nts Old Sydney Holiday Inn + airport transfer
SYD-AKL NZ *several nts @ chez McLean*
AKL-LHR via LAX

£1979 pp

I was going to sign them up to FC to get the 10% off.

Quotes for upgrades to PE are £620 LHR-SYD & £460 AKL-LHR

Thinking about it.... that doesn't sound that cheap

I just did a quick look at VH and that price seems to be about rigth and with the discount also seems to be pretty good value.

I think with VH when you start getting "complicated" itineraries its always the time to make sure you are talking to the UK call centre - mind you - as you are in Auckland do you call the UK or is it all just booked online?

I just called the UK call centre via Skype ;)

I think it's the Intercontinetal in HK that's bumped up the price, because the flights shouldn't be costing that much over £1K without the upgrades [:?]

The Intercontinental at HK is a fab place. Probably the best location in Kowloon, the rooms are very modern and sheek.

If the budget allows, try and keep it in your itinery, they will really enjoy it...:D
