First time in J, advice on the VS2

Hi all, just booked a reward single to take me back from NY at the end of this month. This will be my first brush with upper and i was wondering what all you J vet's would do given the choices i have mainly the snooze zone... to snooze or not to snooze... as it stands the VS2 on this day is scheduled to be a 747 and a childish part of me really wants to go up in the bubble as i've never done it before but my very nice premier team rep informed me that this is the snooze zone on the flight. Now while i do want to get maximum sleep i would also like to spend a little time at the bar living it up. Is it frowned upon to go downstairs for a drink if your in the snooze zone? also how does dining on the ground compare to in flight?

If you've never been upstairs it's a nice change. A few things to ponder:

Going downstairs is always allowed, even if you're in the snooze zone. Just be quiet as you move and I doubt anyone will notice. The crew will close all the shades very quickly.

Going down to the bar is nice; if you think you will be hungry, you'll have to go to the bar to eat, anyway, as the snooze zone is quickly served a drink and then most go change into the ninjas. Food won't come by.

Make sure to mention you'd like a meal and the crew will put it aside for you (usually) so all you have to do is go downstairs to the bar and enjoy it!

As far as the CH goes, food is usually good out of any VS CH - real VS CHs, anyway. It's up to you - have a drink while you eat on board (I recommend the hotpot highly), or eat on the ground and just have a drink or two to get sleepier.

Either way, I'm sure you'll have fun! Oh - if premier didn't tell you, the overheads uptop in the bubble are practically nonexistent. If you will have full-size-allowance cabin baggage and need to have it nearby or in sight, stay downstairs and don't pick rows 6 or 7. You could always go upstairs to see what it's like after the seatbelt sign goes off - if anyone says anything, just tell them you're in J downstairs and were curious as to what you were missing!

Believe it or not, it happens all the time. Just do it right after the sign goes off, and nobody will be abed yet!

Hi Edward - already good advice and I'll add: if sleep is your priority then do go for the bubble, but be prepared that v v soon after take off the lights will go out and it will be a snooze zone for as long as possible during the flight with no meal service/drinks carts or interruption (you can of course have a drink next to your bed) and fellow pax in that zone will want peace and quiet.

Do of course go down to the bar. I often do - if I'm not full from eating in the club house, or can't sleep, I'll sit at the bar and have a couple of nightcaps to help!

As for food, I'd eat in the JFK club house for sure, the food is always better than in the air and there's a good choice of fresh cooked food.

As it's your first time in UC I'd be tempted to sit downstairs and enjoy the experience to the full (if the major priority isn't sleeping for most of the flight)as the flight won't be that long.I actually prefer downstairs (8A or 8K if possible)but have had no problems coming down to the bar when I've been in the bubble.If the food in the CH takes your fancy eat there- and if the food on board tempts you you can allways have another bite to eat!!
Hope you have a great time -be warned the whole UC thing can become an addictive experience.

VS2 is from EWR. So the EWR Clubhouse, not JFK.

I prefer the camel ride myself...

But yeah, being up in the bubble is fine if you want to experience that. You could also eat your full meal in the clubhouse, and then just have a snack at the bar with a pre sleep port (or whatever your fave tipple is).
Only thing, I don't know what food is like at EWR, I know in the CH at JFK its great. Indeed the nicest scallops I've ever eaten were there..

I did the snooze zone on the VS002 a few months back and it was great, though it is indeed like your own demi cabin - I was in 8K (main deck) on a JFK-LHR flight the previous year and that was very nice, good opportunity to look around and the main deck feels more special than upstairs in my opinion.

If you can you should also do Revival's when you arrive, well worth taking the time.

I find the UC seats upstairs in the bubble rather cramped compared with downstairs. Nice if all you want to do is sleep but space does seem to be at a premium up there.

On my rtn flight back form JFK, we were downstairs in the main cabin, I didn't want to be upstair, I too find it rather cramped. Like people have said, if sleeping isn't the be all, I would sit downstairs, and enjoy the full service of UC. You can have something to eat, and then get ready for bed, you still can have a few hours, and wake up, and have breakfast in bed! It doesn't feel like you are flying at all. You won't want the flight to end. [y]

Thanks for all the advice everyone, it's really helpful. I think I'll go with the main deck with a cheeky peak upstairs as itsallgood suggests. I'm in 17K at the moment, what do people think about that seat? good or bad, it seems to have a good write up on the seat guide.

I am rather worried about this whole addictive thing! I have to cattle class myself across all too often and i can see this making that an even more unpleasant prospect in the future!

I'll do a trip report when I'm home..

I have been in 17 in the middle and it was fine, I didn't hear any noise from the bar, and it is close to hand for that night cap or 4! [}:)]

I am afraid to say that UC is VERY addictive, you are really spoilt, not only by the service, but the whole thing, the seat, IFBT everything, I can not go back now, it is turn left or nothing for me now![}:)] Welcome to the UC Club! [y]
