Due to the massive success of this summer's Glasgow - Orlando seasonal service, Virgin Atlantic & Virgin Holidays are increasing the number of services for 2008 from 6 to 14. Seats will be available to book through VH from today.

In 2007, the flights leave Glasgow on peak Saturdays in June, July and October. For 2008, this has been increased to a twice-weekly service on the busiest weeks, as well as a brand-new service to cover the Scottish "Easter" holidays.

Flights will depart Glasgow on the following dates in 2008.

Looks like VS are on a winner here on the GLA-MCO route [8D]

Now just the small matter of freeing up aircraft to run these extra services...

The aircraft being used was initially going to operate the second MAN-MCO (VS73/4) but as these dates are peak in Scotland but not in England, the loads are much higher from GLA than on a second MAN service.

Sounds like very good business sense to me - if the MAN-MCO-MAN load on the second flight (VS73/74) would have been light, then send the aircraft up to Glasgow. I am sure many Scotland-based customers will welcome the lack of a 400 mile round trip to MAN.

I'd like to know what VS define as a light load on a flight - I flew back from MCO to MAN with a friend last November. I was on VS76, he was on the later VS74 - he tried to change the flight [by offering to pay cash, not blagging a freebie] at check-in to one of the LGW flights & was told that ALL the MAN and LGW flights that day [a Saturday, but bang in the middle of November, so no school hols] were 100% full.

MCO is usually a busy route any time of the year, especially at weekends.

Mco loads can be Very lite out of the season and seeing as the schools are off 3-4 weeks earlier in scotland than down south, they prob only have the pax for 1 and a bit a/c where as the GLA fllights are pretty much sold out, its just a case of making the most money possible. Oh and it will be nice to see a VS a/c at GLA! Roll on a proper base and see the end of globespan and il be happy!!

This is excellent news!

I would love to see more flights from GLA, especially with Virgin. I look forward to seeing VS metal as a regular visitor to GLA.

Maybe one day GLA will become a Virgin base, surly there is a large enough population from Scotland and northern England to justify this, especially as the price of domestic flights are slowly creeping up - hopefully routing through London will become a thing of the past.

I know itÕs been discussed before, but I think in order for regional flights & frequencies to grow, smaller aircraft than the 747 and A340 would be required.

Continental has proved a daily GLAEDI Ð ERW is feasible, Emirates the Dubai route - lets hope there are more routes opening up soon.

On another note Ð these increased frequencies will also provide great competition to flyglobespan.

Thats surprising outside of holiday time MCO loads are normally very very light.
