Hi,

I'm a bit new to all these different fare code an all that, but I have recently (today) booked a holiday with VH, in the hope that I could upgrade to PE using our miles, but when I spoke to them I was told that I couldn't do this.

I assume it's to do with the fare code we have been put in, and so I was wondering if there is anyway of paying to be put into the full fare class ?

Failing that, is there anything else I can do to get the PE upgrade cheaper then the £1000 I was quoted?

Any special offers on the horizon that we know of ???

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy, and welcome [y]

You're absolutely correct, it's down to the fare code. VH bookings are not upgradable with miles at any time. You MAY get lucky at the airport, when they sometimes do "special" upgrade prices for cash on the day - but if you're keen to secure a seat in PE, it's best to call VH themselves and pay the upgrade cost.

(If we knew the special offers that were on the horizon, you wouldn't see quite so many "damn, I just booked" threads ;))

Welcome to V-Flyer Andy :)

£1000 seems a lot to upgrade to PE, how many people is that for? An Economy to Premium upgrade is usually around the £300 mark per person one way with V Hols.

You can upgrade V Hols VS fares at the airport with cash, but there will need to be availability in Premium to do this.

V Hols usually offer the best value upgrades on VS flights.

It depends on the fare class into which you have been booked. The brochure price is based on being booked into an upgradeable class, but VH do not always book you into such a class. If you have unexpected "flight discounts" on your booking it's likely you've been booked into something like "N". It happened to us this year, where to upgrade I had to lose the discounts and then pay the brochure price.

To be honest Ive always found the VH upgarade price to be a "good deal" - especially if you are a FVC member as you get 10% discount.

You dont say for how many people the £1000 you have been quote applies to or where you are going? If its 2 people return then thats about right!

It is my experience that VH use the cheapest fare going, friends flying have always got the N class, which means little miles and no Refer a friend credit. Which then means you cannot upgrade using miles.

You dont get any miles more friends FC credit for any V Hols economy fares (N or V). You do however earn MMF credit for all V Hols PE fares which are booked in 'H'.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Just to clear up it was for 2 adult returns to St Lucia, from Gatwick. So I guess the price is about right.

With discount it comes to £900 all in, so I have decided to make sure I get them and have paid for the upgrade.

I know some don't agree with paying the extra, but for me, now that I've tried it, I just can't go back downstairs, unless it is for UC of course [8D]

Thanks again.
