Common sense luggage advice - UA

I just booked some flights with UA, and then phoned up to have some upgrade awards applied to them.

The agent reconfirmed the upgrades with an email, and in the email, it mentions this:

"Please print a copy of
your itinerary confirmation and
place it inside your checked
baggage for identification
purposes while you are traveling."

What a great piece of advice. If the label comes off your checked bag, it becomes very easy to work out who the bag belongs to from the printed itinerary - they can link it back to your PNR, print another bag tag, and get it back on it's way.

I'll bet that was suggested by an employee who has to try and sort out the missing bags!

Good advice[y] - I have been putting a sheet of A4 inside my case with my destination and flight details on for ages now - the only caveat I would make to Mike's suggestion is that I do not put anything in the case that would inform someone of how long I was going to be away, my return flight details ( until I am making it) or my home address.[V]

You never know who is reading such info and what they could do with it?

Qantas also do a similar thing in advising you to stick a label with your details on the inside all your checked luggage.

My labels are still there from a Qantas flight about 7 years ago now!!

I really liked the idea of the PNR being there, as that is probably the single most helpful thing to the airline - and it doesn't give up any information about where you live, etc., to a casual luggage thief.

This has been good advice for years. I have always placed a business card on top inside my luggage with my flight details for that trip written on it.
