My forthcoming trip is booked through Virgin Holidays. We fly UC out, but Premium Back. I have now asked if there was any availibilty to upgrade to UC. Virgin Holidays have now come back to say that there are no seats available through them and that the have asked their flight department to request more seats from VA, but there are no seats to request. I have been on to VA website and there are still seats available for the inward bound flight, how come flight department are saying that there are no available and to ask at check in in case there is a cancellation? I am very confussled.

Hi Gill,

The route and when you travel will play a big part. Where are you off to and when?

VH get an initial allocation of seats from VA which are heavily discounted. Once sold out they can request more as has happened in your case. VA do say no quite regulary if they think they can sell the seats themselves at a higher fare code.

If this is the case you are stuck and left to try on the day of travel only unfortunately. :)

Gill,

This is a common problem one of which i experienced myself to St Lucia.

I always book via VH and end up upgrading my seats nearer the time when i get little bonuses from the boss!

VH as Rob rightly states only get a certain amount allocated to them and really its a question of keep checking online (through manage my booking) on the VH website to see if any in the future spring up.

Other than that you could try on the day or if you are really lucky and a bit flash with the cash on your return flight you could upgrade whilst onboard.

Las Vegas is a very busy flight and seats get booked up quite quickly. Thus VA know they are better off keeping the seats to get a better revenue.

Hope this helps

Upper seating either to or from Vegas are like gold dust I'm afraid. I can understand why VA/VH have said no.

VA face no direct competition on the route, seating normally sells for a good deal more than you will pay to travel to either SFO or LAX. D and J fares are normally all that available.

VH get either 2 or 4 seats per sector on this route, once they are gone then you have missed out.

Certainly try once you get to the airport to pay on the day...:D

Gill - I wanted to do the same as you with my seats back from Antigua in June - just keep logging onto the "manage your booking" section of the VH site and click on flight upgrades - as Rob and Ger say if setas become available to VH then they will appear on here - and as you get closer to departure there is more liklihood of seats being available as VS do not want an empty cabin!!

You may find - if you speak with the VH UK based Customer services team- that they will get a price from VS flight management for UC seats - but that it will be a bit steep - then you have the option of paying more than the brochure price or sitting it out as you get nearer the travel date!!

I am sure you will have a wonderful time whatever seats you get!!
