Don`t know if this is a trend in hotels to save money, but I have noticed a high number of shower/bathroom extract fans don`t work, even in newly refurbished hotels. I expect a 100 room hotel can make some pretty decent savings over the year if they disconnect them.We have a right to steam free mirrors in our hotel rooms[y].
Its not the extract fans that stop the mirror from steaming up but whether or not the mirror is heated - this can be done using a heated mirror or ensuring the bathroom and subsequently the mirror is warm before the steam of the shower starts!. We have a heated mirror at home and its great!
Have we really come to having a chat about steaming mirrors - Oh dear!
Jesus Decker - Your on the ball today with yor quick remarks etc- lol
An easy way to stop steamy mirrors is to rub in shaving foam not forgetting to wipe it off before you shave.
Leave it on the mirror for about 1 min. then when you come to have a bath/shower then use the mirror for a shave and hey presto [^][^]NO STEAMY MIRROR.[^][^]

Perhaps we should have a "Top Tips" thread in the Off Topic section for stuff like this - things like hanging up clothes in the bathroom and then running the shower to get the room all steamy and remove creases ( after you have soaped the mirror of course!!!!)

And for the ladies out there who probably don't carry shaving foam. Try cleaning the mirror with shower gel and polishing it up before steaming the bathroom that always works for us and saves stabbing yourself in the eye with the mascara brush cos you can't see what you're doing[B)]

I think it is not a case of the fans being switched of but the nature of extract sytems being changed. Rather than having a fan positioned locally (in bathroom ceiling) which comes on when you switch the light on. I have notice extract room bathrooms appear to have fans positioned centrally. This is quieter, more energy efficient easier to maintain and so cheaper. however the extract rate is much lower so humidity from baths/showers remains much longer and mirrors remain misted up. I have tested extract which do not appear to work to find they where extracting at a low level. The easist was to clear misted mirrors is open the bathroom door air con in room quickly dries things out.

Or leave the bathroom door open....my bathrooms at home never steam up.
