Hi again,

as i will be travelling through singapore airport this sept on route to melbourne and will be travelling econ does anyone have any experience of the Plaza transit lounge or know of any review websites that might be helpful? Seems like for about SD$30/£10 you can have a shower and free food and drink.

Cheers for any comments

Tom

We had a very early flight out of SIN last year. I think it is a fantastic airport. We didn't manage the transit hotel, as one was full and the other was being renovated, but we checked in for our flight late evening and went airside around midnight.

All of the restaurants shops and bars stay open until the early hours and quite a few are 24 hours. There are loads of TVs dotted about - a lot showing UK programmes - I remember I was watching the last day of the Open Golf live in the small hours of the morning. [8D]

There are a lot of sleeper seats dotted around where you can get your head down. The only downside to this is that the police came round about 2am checking everyone in the terminal. :)

I think the prices for the transit were a little more than you have said but trip advisor reviews seem generally favourable.

This is the transit hotel page on the really good Changi Airport Website, which will give you a great idea of what to expect.

cheers Nick,

I think i wasn't so clear in my first post. I have had a look at the hotel and your right the prices are indeed a bit higher than the $30 that i stated. but what i was talking about was this http://www.plaza-ppl.com/sg_en/lounge.php Sorry if i wasnt so clear first off. Cheers for the other info tho.

One question tho, the hotel is in term 1 but i will be in terminal 2 will i still beable to use it. i believe the swimming pool will be in terminal 1 aswell.

cheers tom

Tom,

I've used the transit hotel and a few other airside facilities at changi a couple of times.
The two transit hotels are indeed in different terminals, but the terminals ajoin each other airside and pretty much merge into one, with a ten minute walk or a shuttle train to get between the main concourse of each.
I've found that the "booking" systems of the transit hotels aren't linked. And if you find the facilities you want are not available in one, it is worth walking to the other and asking there.
I've always turned up on spec and managed to get a room in one or the other.
The swimming pool is a great idea to kill a few hours. Sadly I've only ever overnight transitted, and it closes at 10pm I beleive.

This is a nice lounge, from what I recall. I used the napping facilities for a few hours on a London-Australia trip last year.

Despite being in Raffles (and being Star Gold), I found the napping facilities in the Silver Kris Lounge a bit below par - "dentist chair" type loungers, and inadequately screened against noise from the rest of the lounge.

With a six-hour layover, I considered the transit hotel in the terminal, but found out they were full that evening.

This lounge is directly opposite the transit hotel for T2, so I walked over there and asked if their napping room was properly seperated from the rest of the lounge (which it is) before paying to use it.

The napping rooms there were good - proper horizonal beds, with individual privacy dividers around each bed, subdued lighting, etc. They give you a vibrating alarm clock to clip to your clothes to wake you up. It was, however, like most of Changi air-conditioned to the point of feeling cold.

I didn't use the main lounge or showers (I had the use of the SQ lounge for this), but what I saw of all the other facilities there when the receptionist showed me round, it was very nice.

Mike, I felt that too in the Kris first lounge and Singapore. Not the comfiest sleep but still managed some after the 14 flight I had been on.

I havn't used the Plaza lounge at SIN, but my experience of others in the range, such as at HKG have been above par for a PP airport lounge. Hot food!

Cheers!
