I'm off to BAH with GF tomorrow (got to earn miles and TPs somehow!), and despite the bargain <£1700 J fare, I still get a car transfer.

However, booking this seems to be a bit hit and miss at the moment - when you phone reservations (you're piped through to a central reservations in BAH, where they insisted on calling me "Mr. Michael") they say "Yes, it's all arranged, but someone will confirm it with you in 48 hours". Even when I'd phoned back to check, they kind of fluffed around it a bit. So, it's not as smooth as the VS CDC system.

I'd still no confirmation of the booking this evening, so I phoned Tristar wondering if they were providing the transfers for GF, and could see my booking. Turns out they don't - at the moment, though they have recently won the contract for GF from their current suppliers, but it's not started yet.

The person at Tristar was fantastically helpful, asked around her colleagues, and found out who is the current CDC contractor for GF, which turned out to be a company called Burgundy. I was really impressed with the steps the Tristar operator went to help me.

I called Burgundy, and they were really helpful too, going through the car bookings, but couldn't find mine, unfortunately. They did, however, give me the direct number for GF's ticket desk at Heathrow - which is authorised to book cars, where (after the phone ringing for a few minutes) a helpful guy there pulled my booking up and promised to book the car straightaway, and I got a confirmation that it had been done shortly afterward.

So, all's well that ends well, but it seemed a bit chaotic compared to VS' system.

Maybe GF's system will improve once they switch over to Tristar?

Thanks for that Mike, please also post a TR. I am v interested in Gulf since they fly onward to many of the places I need to go to in INdia, so that's more TPs and miles ... am considering changing from Emirates!

Car okay (though about 10 mins late, as the driver wasn't local - one difference with Tristar is that they seem to have several drivers who live locally to me), journey across London to Heathrow fairly trouble and traffic free.

T3's ongoing building site takes a bit of negotiation.

GF check-in a bit chaotic. I think there was a pax with a problem on their booking in front of me, and all the flights seem full this morning, which I think is stressing the system slightly.

GF lounge is very small - about 40/50 seats - but then, they only have about 25-30 premium pax on each flight (8 seat F cabin, 20-odd seat J cabin). Also, no power outlets by the seats (which are nice and comfy), which I think is a bit of an oversight!

However, friendly and helpful staff thoughout.

Mike
