When you cancel you VS AMEX card you loose any miles you may have accrued during your last month with them. I cancelled my Black card in February, my last statement arrived stating that I had over 1140 miles but these never made it to my Virgin FF account. After speaking to those wonderful people at MBNA they have told me that when you cancel your card you do not receive the points owing to you in your last statement.

Just something to remember, if you do intend to cancel the VS card don’t expect any further miles from them.

Thanks for the heads up, rcslt. [y]

Now that you have ditched the VS Amex, have you found an alternative?

I've kept my VS White card but I am getting really tired of not being able to spend the miles so I decided to find another primary card that offers cashback.

Same here. Took me 3 years to earn enough miles (flights and card) for my first reward flight in September so as these are all gone I have no need for it anymore. A lot of places I use don't take Amex anyway, plus we won't be going on holiday again before emigrating so no need for the miles anymore.

Got myself a Tesco Mastercard as the points on this will help with the weekly shop.

Was tempted with a Citibank iTunes card, but you need to spend £2000 for a £15 iTunes voucher, or £15,000 to get a £99 Nano!!!!!

If you still have a white VS Amex, wouldn't they let you keep your miles on that account? [n]

Thats what I asked but nope, the Black account was closed and any points that hadn't been transferred to the FF account were now lost. The original person I spoke to had attitude and so I asked to speak with her supervisor and although he couldn't initially help me he said he would contact the marketing department who deal with miles and would get back to me. And true to his word, he did, he even said that he had suggested that they give me at least 1/2 the points as a goodwill gesture as I still have an account with them, the answer was NO. As I write this I feel a letter coming on to those nice people at MBNA and if the answer is still no I am truly tempted to completely get rid of all my MBNA cards. There are loads of cards out there that offer rewards that can actually be used and some that offer cashback.
