Seville and Cordoba

As you may have seen from my countdown timer at the bottom of my posts we are going on a driving holiday around Andalucia, Spain in a few weeks. The other day we decided to spend two nights away form our base for the week (Mijas-Costa, Costa del Sol). One night (Monday 12th) will be spent in Seville, while the next night (Tuesday 13th) will be spent in Cordoba.

The hotels are booked but I was wondering what is there to see and do in these two cities, and does anyone know of any good bars and restaruants in these cities. Also is there anything to watch out for...AFAIK there is a lot of work in Seville right now cos of construction of their new Metro system.

For a side trip, about 20-30 mins drive from Seville is the beautiful medieval mountain town of Carmona. We stayed at the Casa de Carmona which (unknown to me) had just dropped its Relais et Chateaux status. It was a beautiful place but was as close to Fawlty Towers as you could imagine. Still, we had the entire place to ourselves. We were only going to stay one night but loved it so much we stayed for another night.

There are the remains of a Roman settlement there and a walk around the ancient walled town is very rewarding with the vistas across the surrounding plains spectacular.

In Seville itself of course you have to do the tour of the bull ring thingy. Not sure I'd be up for a bull fight though.
