Monorail prices - OUCH!

So, in 2005, we attended a conference at the LV Hilton/Convention Center. A 10-trip ticket on the monorail was a reasonable $20.

The ticket I had with me (with spare rides on) had sadly expired after a year, as they all do, so I had to buy a new one. That very same 10-trip ticket is now $35 [:0]


Inflation, I know, affects things, but nearly DOUBLE in less than 2 years?! [V]



Taxi it is... (for 3/4 of us, it's now a lot cheaper!)

Hmmm... methinks the Monorail people are going to shoot themselves in the foot. I heard (possibly from a resident not a million miles away from this very website), that the reason behind the price increases were because the current number of passengers wasn't covering costs. Erm, hello? How to drive customers off the monorail? - double the price.

I'm with you Paul, Taxi's are now cheaper (and normally faster, although not always!), but certainly a better view

...and usually a shorter walk given they will normally drop you off at the door or your hotel, casino, etc., not a block away!

I think the Monorail is only going to get more popular once it's extended to the airport, which isn't that going to be in something like 2011?

Exactly.

And yes they figured that most of the people using it were just going to expense the cost of the ticket anyway so why not try and get more money in the fare box.

The ridership level did drop, but they are still taking in more money than before.

Maybe someone who lives there/vists often can confirm this, but am I right in saying that the airport extension has been delayed (and continues to struggle to gain funding) due to particularly strong lobbying by the taxi firms in the area?

I haven't heard anything about it being delayed.

For sure the taxi firms are lobbying against it, but in the end the monorail is a "prestige" thing, though it is a private company the city and county will not allow it to fail.

However....if the monorail is ever going to succeed it needs to be closer to the hotels...as Bazz says for some of the stations it is a long walk from the hotel..try doing it with luggage.
