Ok well it has suddenly dawned on me that I have a period of about 4 weeks from the last week of May in which I can easily get away. :D

The last week of May seems to be half term in the UK so really trying to avoid it as I want to get a bit of a good deal.

Basically what I am after is:
Somewhere hot
Decent hotel
Nice restaurants/bars
Good beach/pool

Original plan was to pop over to the parents in Fl but am not going to pay silly money on the b+s routes.

Had contemplated DXB as saw some good prices on flights via Europe but not too sure. Airline doesnt have to bs VS.

Any ideas guys and gals??!

Hi Will

An idea of your budget would be useful, and whether you're travelling alone or with others - I was about to recommend somewhere and then remembered you're a student (unless Ma and Pa are keeping you in a style to which you've become accustomed;))

Take a look here, easy flight, great hotel, some amazing resturants close by and some nice beaches.

Well its our last year of this part of my studies so decided to splash out- especially seeing as the library has become my best friend! We decided to give the university wide graduation trip to Turkey a miss- at £350 per person it seemed rather steep for 6 days of sun in a 2 star hotel. So our limit is £400 per person. We had been looking at some package deals on Ebookers/lastminute etc but I would prefere to go it alone.

Italy was an option but we fancied something different (one of my friends lives in Italy).

Dubai is good for cheap flights, but not so good for cheap hotels as far as I am aware. However, if you do get a good deal, I would really recommend the place. I'm not exactly an expert on the area (but I know a few on here who are pretty close;)); how about the Red Sea?

Try Emirates flights to Dubai with lastminute.com because we got a great deal by phoning them & got daytime flights that we wanted at no extra cost instead of ones advertised on their site (overnighters). ie out LHR 8.40am & back DXB 16.15 local time.Even a better deal than Emirates online. Suited us down to the ground.
We got a great deal with hotels.com to stay at Hilton Dubai Creek but there are loads of hotels available. I have heard very good reports on the Golden Sands apartments which can sleep upto 6 or 8 I believe. Again lastminute were doing a good deal & they are in Kuoni brochure & good feedback from Tripadvisor.
Have fun wherever you end up :)

Hi Will

For £400 p.p. you should be able to get a really good 4* hotel for 7 days on at least half board package in the Algarve flying out 2 June or later (I found a 4+ with AI for £351 and the hotel/food gets good write ups on Trip Advisor).

Tunisia also offers good value as do any of the Greek Islands or somewhere like Mallorca - if you want to do self catering prices can be as low as £250 for 3*. You also ought to be able to do much better than 2* in Turkey for your budget.

In June you'll have the benefit of really good weather without the crowds. It isn't really usually worth the effort of trying to "go it alone" to beat some of these packages prices. For example, the cheapeast flight only to Faro with BA via STA travel is £154 (cheaper than the "BA special" under 26 fare of £214). So the 7 nights AI I found costs only an extra £200 - less than £30 a day inc food and accomodation - I'm not sure you'd beat that (source - Direct Holidays - offshoot of My Travel/Airtours)

As others have said, you might be able to get to Dubai for less than £300 but the hotels are really expensive, even at that time of year. The recommenations for Italy are appealing, but I'm not sure you'll find something on your budget.

Hope you find a good holiday and good luck with your exams!

Pat
