Hotel recommendation in Oxford..?

Anyone suggest a nice place to stay in Oxford for a few nights in early July?

I'm attending a conference being held in The Oxford Playhouse, Beaumont Street, Oxford. So something walkable to there would be ideal..

Well the Randolf is right next to the Playhouse but expensive ... It's where Clinton stopped ! The Mal Maison is a short walk away but again expensive.

Otherwsie you're options are limited ... The Four Pillars on the Abingdon Road is about a 15 minute walk, as is Quod in the High Street. and apart from that all the others like the Paramount, and Holiday Inn are all dotted around the ring road.

I think it's £200 plus a night ... The Mal Maison was around £174 when it opened last year !

Silly me ... I forgot to mention Apartmets in Oxford which are about 10 minutes a way

Oh. That may be a tad extravagant.. considering it's July weather and I'll not be spending too much time in the hotel.

We used these for a break of Christmas and can recommend them. As Andrew says, they are about a 10 minute stroll from the Playhouse and very close to the revitalised cafe / bar / restaurant area around what was the prison and is now the Malmaison. One *big* advantage if you're driving is that they have parking, and if you're not they are close the the rail station. URL is

We once got lucky at a corporate do and got one of the corner suites at the Randolph. Very, very pleasant. So big it had two bathrooms. Never quite sure why they needed to go for a "Morse" bar, though.

The Old Bank hotel is the best in town, IMHO. Rooms are very classy and have high quality fixtures and furnishings. It's a little walk away from the playhouse however and it's sister, The Old Parsonage is closer but I find the quaintness and room size a little less desirable than the Old Bank. I've gorn orf the Randolph, it's a little lacking in service and comfort to me. No wireless internet either.

Seems all the hotels mentioned above are fully booked for the nights I require..

Searching for other places to stay has revealed The Royal Oxford hotel in Park End St, and Victoria House hotel in George St.

Any thoughts?
