Okay here is the situation. Got a student Credit card to pay for ticket to OZ. Ticket more than credit limit. Fair enough. Put more funds on credit card. Airline website says transaction limit reached. Phone Natwest. They tell me that even tho there is sufficient funds they are not going to raise the transaction limit. becos its a student CC. now i cant book tickets. I am goin into the bank tomoro. Failure to find a solution to the problem, will result in me closing my account and withdrawing ISA. I only got the damn credit card to pay for the tickets.

Any advice?

Tom

Nope, you are doing the right thing..if they don't want to service your debt I am sure you can find a bank that will.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but they are right. Credit cards don't take into account when you are in credit on the account, the system only works with the credit limit on the system. Plus student credit cards have always had low limits (I think mine was £300 with barclaycard) so why not just use your debit card??

I would gladly use my debit card, but singapore do not accept Maestro.

See what they say tomoro

From what I've read, Egg Money may be a better account for you

As a fellow student I can totally sympathise. Do you happen to have a VS Amex as they were very generous with my credit limit (to my surprise). When I went to the US last year and was buying tickets, they even raised my credit limit for me. Might be worth a try.

Enjoy the trip.

On the other hand the newspapers are often full of stories about credit card companies/banks etc willing to allow people to get heavily in debt so maybe some credit (no pun intended) should be given to a company willing to stick to its guns on credit limits.

Also a credit card issuer is not authorised to take deposits and therefore can never treat a credit balance as an addition to the credit limit.

It's a shame that once the situation was specifically discussed with them that they couldn't make an exception though.
