Interesting thing cropped up tonight... playing on Virgin Skill site, and wanted to remove funds. Not done so since the Mastercard days - go to update card and surprise surprise no AmEx option!

I spoke to customer services who say they "used to accept Amex until 31st December 2006", when I asked why they stopped they said that "the contract expired and fees were high" [V][V]

I called this evening to try and cancel my card, and was told that I need to call back on a different number as I need to speak to the 'Loyalty Team'. Oh and they don't work past 7pm so I need to call back in the morning. Oh the irony!

Wasn't aware of that, but this report from 2004 seems to confirm it.

It does contradict what Graham was told about it being from 31 Dec 06, though. [:w]

No, none at all. Unless you count rudeness, surliness and hanging up when asked for a supervisor an inducement.

I revolved a balance from last month so there is still interest due, yet no one has the capabiility there to get out a calculator and work out the exact amount I need to send them now. Have to wait for next statement to come so I can get the final amount.

Good riddance is all I can say.

EDIT: Then this afternoon, I received a call from a manager at MBNA who asked me what it would take in compensation from them to keep my account open. They are calling me back in the morning after they have had a think about a few points I gave them.

And again the madness of MBNA strikes again.

They offered £50 for me to keep my account open; regretfully I declined. And just as a FYI, they will not waive the annual fee as they offered Sarah the same (even though she has had far more issues and spends a lot more on her VS AmEx).
