Hi

has anyone flown Maxjet and PE? Straight choice, if same price and same route which would you take? I'm considering flight to Las Vegas but have heard so many bad things about Maxjet reliabilty not sure whether to give them a try or not. How does seat comfort, service, in flight entertainment etc, compare to PE. I realise that VS fly from LGW and Maxjet from Stansted, so its not quite same route, but take that out of equation. Any views gratefully received,

thanks

Lynne

Scrooge posted this TR, some time ago, which will answer a few of your questions.

There are also quite a few Virgin v Maxjet discussions, if you do a search. This one, for example.

If anyone has more recent experiences, I am sure they will post.

thanks Nottingham Nick

interesting reading, sounds like a no brainer really but have read so many bad reports on Airline Quality re cancelled, late, and diverted flights with Maxjet that it sounds a bit worrying. However to be honest when we flew VS to LAS we were stuck on plane on tarmac for 2 hours in LGW as they'd loaded plane cargo wrong, guess all airlines are prone to errors and delays, and also Airline Quality reviews do tend to be more bad ones than good, perhaps its back to that thing of if we have good service we don't bother to tell anyone about it, but when its bad we like to complain!

If we decide to go to LAS, think will bite bullet and try Maxjet.

thanks

IFE: MY uses DigiPlayers. Google them. Not so good. Lacking Resolution. All VS systems are better.

That I would argue, being able to use them as an AVOD has advantages over the older VS systems...however trying to balance them on the table while eating is a trick and a half.

In regards to MY v VS PE....if the pricing is equal then I would probably go with VS..just to be a miles whore [:I]

However I am looking for flights for next year and MY's prices are killing VS's, I enjoyed my flights on MY and would recommend them to anyone, like all airlines they do suffer from delays, however for the extra comfort and space I am willing to roll the dice.

A slightly worrying topic here. I've literally just booked my first flights with Maxjet, partly as I'd actually heard almost nothing but positive stuff about them, but mainly because the price is so hugely different. I hope I haven't made an expensive mistake[:0]

What are you worried about...delays happen to all airlines..just ask people flying VS to MCO this year.

MY have a good product at a great price, I would not hesitate to fly with them again, in fact I will be booking flight for '08 with them in mid August, this is a case where the price of a PE seat LAS - LGW is slightly more than the cost of a ticket on MY LAS - STN, all things being equal for me the MY product is better and the 15k miles earned is not that big of a deal.

I'm sorry, didn't mean to worry you, I have just read quite a lot about Maxjet being unreliable, but then all airlines can be unreliable at times! If it makes you feel any better, looks like we will be flying with them next year to Vegas, its cheaper than PE, easier airport for me to get to, has access to a lounge at Stansted, and so really there's no choice. Also we have flown a lot recently with VS, and so far apart from a few minor quibbles its been great, but I'm sure we're due a bad experience with them! Once flew BA WT+, I thought it was a complete waste of money, entertainment system didn't work in my seat on way there and back, staff were surly and offhand, no drinks before take off etc, would never fly with them again, but it could have just been a one off!

Let us know how your flight goes

Well gald to hear you booked it...we of course will be waiting for a TR from you..

The only downside, at least from my POV is STN, it is just so far out, but being able to lay out for 11 hrs kind of makes up for it.

Ah, s'ok Lynne, if the reports I'd heard about were in relation to an airline I was familiar with (ie VS!) then I would have taken little notice, because it's a brand I'm comfortable with. It's booked now in any case, so will see how it compares.

STN is great for us - closer than either Gatwick or Heathrow, so a definite plus and would love to see more international flights operating from there. How good did you find the laying out Scrooge? Ooops, you know what I mean, how comfy are the seats???

We have traveled twice on MY already, and have a further 2 bookings made. If you look on airline quality, most of the cancellations were in the bad old days when they had 3 aircraft and ran the Washington route. Since February, I think they ran 95% of flights, maybe a few delays, but with a great price and service, it's def worth it. BTW, if you also look at VS reports on Airline quality, would you fly with them??

I loved the seats, big, comfy, soft...think over sized recliner. In many ways it worked better for me than the NNNCW or UCS seats/beads but I can fall asleep on a train...so tells you something about me.

I have now taken two flights with them, the first had a delay of two hours on the outbound leg, the second went like clock work.

Bang for the buck is great, the only thing I would like to see is in flight seat power to keep the laptop charged up so I can get some work/play games on the flight.
