On sky news tonight, they mentioned this - and interviewed a couple of people with (ahem) "extreme" views in opposition to the report.

Not helped by the fact it was written by those who are at risk due to the environmental criticisms. Still, interesting reading none the less.

737 pax on a Eurostar to the south of France produces more carbon than 120 on a 737?

Is that what BALPA are saying?

Kind of ... Their argument is that over greater distances aircraft do less damage.

However the report suggested that you'd have to take a plane from Cornwall to Inverness as the sort of difference against the train !

They may be basing their argument on a 40% load factor on rail - just like easyJet challenging Virgin West Coast on their eco claims.

It's all "smoke" and mirrors if you ask me (pardon the pun)!

Indeed.

I'm also not convinced that the stinking (often, 10% loaded where I live) buses that pass through town are actually *that* much more "eco friendly" than my new car... [ii][:?]
