Seems Virgin are getting rid of the members rewards points and just giving discounts, open to anyone with a Virgin Credit Card.

10% off Virgin Advance fairs for standard and first class is quite appealing, as well as 10% off Virgin Holidays and Virgin Megastores.

Yes, it does. From Aug 1st you won't earn membership reward points, but the points you have can be spent any time after that. There's no final cut off date to spend them it seems.

On another note I see virgin have brought out a pre pay credit card - are they sinking to a new low?

hmmm. Just tried the Virgin Trains link again, and it now asks for the first 6 numbers of your Credit Card. It doesn't recognise my Amex number.

Considering it says it's open to anyone with a Virgin Credit Card, I wonder if this is a mistake or whether it's not open to anyone, just the Mastercard users.

The official word from Virgin Money is:

'Yes, we have stopped member shop points on the standard Virgin credit card and replaced them with instant point of sale discounts instead. However, this doesn't affect the Amex Virgin Atlantic card which you can still use to collect Flying Club miles.

Hope that clears up any confusion'

Well, not really. The discounts say they apply to "Virgin Credit Card Customers". Is that us? The VH discount specifically says it's not for amex holders, but for other others, like Virgin Trains and Megastore, it just says "Virgin Credit Cards only".

Why send me a mailshot telling me what discounts I can have if I can't use them? MBNA either need to specify it's the Virgin Money Credit Card, or apply it to all cards.

The Virgin Megastores give their discount without even asking for it in store, as soon as they see the Amex card.

Did you have the ordinary Virgin Money Mastercard before the Virgin Atlantic Mastercard (which was before the VS Amex card)?

I know I did and that's the reson why I get those flyers.

Yes, "Virgin Money" does work for Virgin Money, which can be confirmed by Richard Mannion.

The idea is that if you have questions, we will do our best to answer them on this forum, no matter what department the question is for, rather than just answering questions from a specific part of our company. Of course, we can't answer questions about your account or anything personal. To do that you'll have to call us.

As for the specific questions asked, you shouldn't be able to get the discounts with an Amex card. But if you're getting them, well done!

And mitchja was right about the mailings. If you've ever had a standard credit card with us, we have to mail you to tell you about the change in details. Even if you had it five years ago and haven't used it since, we still have to tell you.

Thanks Virgin Money. You'd hope that if the accounts were closed and migrated to Amex you would stop marketing to the old customer then. You don't have to tell us about a card we no longer have. If the account was dormant I'd agree with you, but you guys close the account and open up an Amex one in its place. Suggest you get your marketing team to target the correct customers, not ones that left a year ago.
