Hi folks,

Very OT for V-Flyer, but I'm wondering if anyone here can help me and my other half out of a hole.

She's just got a job offer over here, based in central Reading (right next to the station, actually), and they need her to start in September.

Living with me in SE London really isn't an option, as she'd be faced with a 2 hour-plus each-way daily commute, as I'm 45-50 minutes just from home to my workplace at London Bridge.

We're planning on doing a recce over to the Reading area to look at some places for her to live, probably for the next 6-12 months while we work out what our joint plans look like.

However, if anyone has got any leads such as having suitable rental property in the area, doesn't mind having a lodger in their spare room for a couple of months or so, or just wants to pass on info like areas to avoid, please drop me a pm.

Thanks!
Mike

Can't really comment on Reading as it's 15 years since I worked down there !

However, there are a number of nice villages surrounding Reading all of which are the main railway line out of Paddington

Places such as Goring & Streatley, Walgrave, Twyford, Pangbourne, and Tilehurst are on the outskirts and a 5 to 10 minute ride on the train. Then there's Calcot and Theale to the West

PM me if you need info as I know the area having been a service engineer in a previous job !

Nope, Oxfordshire countryside actually, but his Lordship's profession takes him to Reading most days.

Thanks,
Sarah

Yes it does for my sins....

Mike, if you want to drop me a PM with any other info, I am happy to mail our 1500+ people on our Social alias to seek out accomodation for you. There are always people offering out rooms, or looking for rooms.

Thanks,
Richard

Poor you....

Not much knowlegde about flats here, except if they offer you one in Oxford Road, think very carefully. Many of the surrounding roads and flats are used by 'Ladies of Negotiable Affection'.
