According to the report I saw.
The pax was a plat AA member, he traveled to the airport on a crew bus.
He managed to by pass security checks.
He was spotted by one of the FA's who notified the pilot who then after contacting DFW decided to divert to JFK "due to be short on fuel"
All very very strange.

And just to prove mistakes do happen..it appears that the pax had cleared security.
