We are in the middle of building work to extend our house and the day has arrived when the kitchen is ripped out. Our new kitchen is currently scheduled to be fitted on the 20th August [:0] so we now face the prospect of being without oven, hob & dishwasher for weeks

We have moved the microwave oven, kettle, toaster and sabdwich press into the dining room however. Thankfully the fridge can stay where it is for now so is operational.
So now I am looking for tips/recipes that will work with our limited appliances. We were hoping we would be able to use the BBQ on a regular basis, but the weather is not looking good for the forseeable ! I don't mind the odd microwave meal, and of course we can eat out but I don't want to do this every night !

HELP !

As it's such a long time I would consider investing in a microwave/oven combi. I use mine a lot especially when there only 2 of us to cook for.

Or you could buy a camping stove and a bottle of gas. Had many a happy fry-up cooked on one of those in my more formative years.

Good for pasta too (but open the windows in your dining room)

If the weather was hotter I guess you wouldn't mind eating salads every night!

Thanks for all the ideas guys, very helpful.

Camping stove sounds like a great idea but will have to get a fire extinguisher too just in case [:p]
Not sure how the neighbours would feel if we parked up a mobile kitchen next to the skip on the driveway, so I think that's a no go.
They moan about the slightest thing as it is [n]

Last night we had baked potatos, tonight we are out for dinner at The Vanilla Pod in Marlow (been meaning to try it for ages), tomorrow I think we'll have toasted sarnies, Thurs - takeaway...

Richard you managed to get in with this before I could. I seem to recall a conversation "if it takes more than 6 minutes to cook in a microwave it is not worth eating";)

Ahem,

I've never cooked ANYTHING on a hob or in an oven, why would I be able to help here? [:w]

Embrace your fast-food-craviness... ;) The ding is your friend [y]

PS - If you REALLY want some advice, a 24-pc (8 of each type) set of these will go a long way when going for "ultimate eating efficiency". £1.97 in Tesco [^]
