Just a quick reminder for everyone with a White Virgin Amex card (Those who have not yet reached their spending threshold) that the 2 flying club miles for every £1 spent offer finishes on the 31st July.
From 1st August it's:
1 mile for £1 on general purchases
2 Miles for £1 on money spent with Virgin Atlantic or Virgin Holidays.
Better get spending[}:)]

Same for those with black cards which switch from 4 FC miles per £1 to 2 miles per £1 on all transactions excluding VS or VH..:D

It was good while it lasted. Now time to see if anybody gets any good offers from MBNA to keep the card, as i'll be cancelling mine on the 1st August.

Thanks,
Sarah

Will you move to another Airline card instead?

Have you got an alternative lined up, Sarah -or are you just going to revert to your other Amex?

I had a call from them last week offering me a lower rate of interest if I either transfered a balance from another account or if I had a minimum £1000 spend per month.

I seriously hope no-one here uses their MBNA Amex for borrowing (at their rates!).... Surely we're all mileage whores??? Think they're missing the point...

I already have the Bmi Mastercard (non fee paying) and i intend to switch that to the fee paying card in August. (well, not switch, re-apply so i can grab another 20k miles :D). Also considering the BA AmEx too.

I had a call from MBNA asking what they could do for me to enable me to keep my card. Seems my train of thought and theirs were seriously different, so it will be interesting to see what happens on D-day.

Thanks,
Sarah

A non-AMEX airline miles card would come in handy. Plus BMI miles can be converted to VS....right?

They cant be converted, but you can use your miles for reward flights on VS through the Bmi Diamond program. Redemption rates are pretty much the same. You can also use the miles for all the Star Alliance carriers - and there are some good ones too. I'm quite keen on trying Thai First so will probably look at saving for that, as well as the legendary SQ F.

One bonus of the Diamond club program is the ability to use cash and miles towards rewards, but at really good rates (not like VS MpM).

Thanks,
Sarah

I think TG are taking the same approach as SQ with reward availability on their new products.

SQ don't offer reward availability on the 77W in J or F for non Kris members and plan to do the same for the A380 when that arrives.

I searched a few TG dates not long ago in F and couldn't find a single seat via ANA's star reward tool....[:#]

Yup, SQ F redemptions are not the easiest to come by, but they can be done. They are pretty much the holy grail of the program. I've had luck with SAA F though; there were ample J & F redemptions of multiple dates, including pre-Christmas dates. I guess, like VS, you have to be flexible and book very early to get rewards on the 'better' airlines.

Thanks,
Sarah

BTW

I was pleasantly surprised with the reward availability in J and F with BA when browsing their site the other day, especially to the US west coast. A notable similarity to VS however was the lack of CPT reward seats during the SA summer months (no surprise here).

[I'm getting itchy feet and want to splurge some BA Miles on a treat!]

Try CPT over the Winter. I was browsing the other day (using the 'upgrade with miles' menu) and there were J and F rewards to CPT over Christmas. Flying 25th and back on 31st. There were direct flights and also some non-direct (enabling a potential stopover in Jo'burg or Harare).

Thanks,
Sarah

Yes, they do have some better availibilty if you stop-over / fly via another OW city. Just a pain if you don't really need/want to.

[Hope you enjoy Washington - I love that city!]

Harare is probably best avoided at the moment.
