Do we even want to go there Ben ? If so let's start a topic in the OT forum rather than having this thread degenerate into the mud slinging match it is sure to turn into.

The sad thing is at heart I am a republican.

I saw the writing on the wall back in 2000 but would anyone listen to me..heck no [:?]

Anyways take a quick look here

http://www.sourcewatch.org/wiki.phtml?t ... n_scandals

In years to come as stuff keeps getting unearthed we will find that this has been the most corrupt government the US people has elected.

But please remember, these are politicians we are talking about..in the end the majority are as crooked as each other no matter which party they belong to.

Oh come on Scrooge!

More corrupt than "screw any woman going" Kennedys?
or MORE corrupt than "Screw anything going" Clinton??
Both of them made carrers based on corruption.

Hillary is a looks like a horse so I will not vote for her. And the Dems will raise taxes for me so I vote for My Left Hand for President.

Errr...yeah

GW has managed to make a life out of screwing people..how many companies did he manage to BK before becoming president whilst still walking away with $$$ in his pockets.

The Haliburton no contract should of been a sign to everyone that something was up.

Let's not forget the US Attorneys that were fired for not perusing the alleged democratic corruption and then having the AG lie to congress.

Errr Scotter Libby ring a bell ? Of course GW wasn't going to let him spend a day in jail for doing something so minor as tell the press the name of a CIA op....FFS I know people that would be more than happy to put him against a wall for that..but nope..he gets a pardon.

Yes every admin is in some way corrupt, but this one is just so damn blatant about it.

So you censure a president for screwing an aid, but screwing the country is ok?

Lets not forget these people are men with huge ego's and bank balances, quite frankly I really don't care who they have a bit of rumpy pumpy with. As long as they are running their Administration properly and respect that they are only one country in the world and need to talk to others, share with others and respect others.

No politician is ever going to be perfect, you vote with the one who you agree with the most. Unfortunately the political system in the States is now such that you only ever have two choices and its usually ends up choosing the lesser of two evils.

Benm...Read what Fozzyo wrote..vote on brains..not on looks...

Actually I think the best candidate is not going to get in..I like John Edwards a lot...may get in as a VP though.

So glad I'm not a US citizen when it comes to elections; really a Republican but I could never vote for them after the last few years.

When comparing Clinton's pardons to Bush's commute of Libby, you have to realize that the people Clinton pardoned weren't in trouble for doing the president's own dirty work, they were just your usual corrupt official. Libby, however, was in trouble for lying for the president and doing other duties on behalf of the white house. Bush rescued Libby to rescue himself and his administration. That's the most important difference.

Anyway, I'm technically an independent, though I vote with the democrats. Personally, after watching the recent MSNBC debates, I didn't like any candidates. They were all so prerecorded and had the same answers that didn't answer the questions. I liked John Edwards until I saw him in the debate, and I also liked Bill Richardson, though I doubt he has a real chance. I see no real good candidate on the Republican side, and I'd hate to see any of them be president because I think our country is in such a deep pit right now that we can't have a person from the party that brought us there. We need to give the other side a chance to see if they can do a better job.

Needless to say, when comparing Bush to previous presidents he's definitely the worst since Nixon. Democrats and Republicans aside, he simply is the worst. I mean every week he seems to screw something up, be ignorant about something else, or continuously dodge the questions of the American public. I really wish that we had a parliamentary system so that he could be roasted by members of Congress (though, if given the chance, they'd probably chicken out and ask easy questions).

I'll try not to engage in too much debate.. :)

Hopefully the next Prez, whoever he is, will appoint an attorney general with a much better memory. Forgetting some very critical information, at least 29 times (according to a US Army Corporal, so fairly reliable) during testimony to a senate committee isn't good or impressive and doesn't really give the best impression of the Administration.

Mat

PS: Turns out it was 61 times in total.

Personally I want more younger folks to VOTE. I am sick of people the are able to vote simply not voting. I think there should be a No Bitch Law where by if you did not vote in the last election you cannot complain about the issues.

Ali G for President? (we'll bend the rules) :)

Agreed on your first point.
Scared to death on your second..though he may well have a better command of the English language then our current president.

So of those that are legally able to vote in the nation/state you currently reside; Do you? If not, why? (This applies not just to Americans)

Remember: Ozzies MUST pay a ~A$20.00 fine if they fail to vote (one of the great facts that makes Australia great).

I always vote, even though there usually isnt anybody worth voting for. My folks live in Belgium and voting there is obligatory. Belgians also get fined if they do not vote, which results in a lot of spoiled ballot papers at each election.

Thanks,
Sarah

I have only missed one vote and I was gutted that I didn't get to make my cross on the paper! I am all for compulsory voting myself, think it should be required. And if that is the case have a "None of the above" option so people can register their vote and actively say that they don't like the available candidates.

I can't see of any reason for not voting.

Agree 100% - Think the Politicians don't like the idea of a "None of the above" box as it would show the huge apathy there is towards the current parties however

- Middle ground diluted Labour
- Trying hard to reclaim the middle ground Conservative - but with a light-weight leader to boot
- No chance in hell Liberals
- Thinly veiled racist UKIP party
- Overtly stupid BNP

I liked Bill Clinton, at least when he won an election it didn't look fixed, and as far as the BJ goes, good luck to him.

But then I liked Tony Blair too so that just shows how popular I am right now, lol.

Not to get into too much of a side debate, but I think aside from Iraq and his relationship with Bush, Blair was a damn good leader. These two things just tarnished his record. I mean look at how parliament gave him a standing ovation on his last day, that was certainly new.

Anyway, I agree on mandatory voting. I think if it were set in place it might help reduce the strength of the two party system in the US.
