A couple of questions for anyone that can help.

1. Can you use a companion voucher to purchase a ticket for yourself if your other half is purchasing a Y ticket ? The credit card is in my name. Probably a silly [?] question but you never know. My OH travels a fair bit on Y tickets for work so he is unlikely to use the companion voucher that I have, and I am unlikely to want to purchase a Y ticket with my own money . He is also a FC member.

2. Should I see the Premium upgrade voucher in my FC account.
I called MBNA earlier and they said that I need to call FC to confirm that I am entitled to the upgrade. I have a black card definitely spent the required 5k in the relevant year :D
I can see the Companion ticket entitlement in my account, but not the upgrade. Are MBNA wrong... unlikely as it may be [}:)]

Thanks all [oo]

1) Yes. When you book you can specify who is having the revenue fare. Warning: This can lead to arguments. Call up, book his Y fare with your card, and use the Companion voucher with it to get you a reward seat. If his work book his Y flights it may be more tricky, he'll have to talk to FC and you either need to be available to auth your account use, or get him approved for using your account (and the voucher).

2) Sorry, but MBNA should be telling you if you are eligible, not Flying Club. Its they who can see if you have exceeded the threshold. Call them back, they need to put in a request to FC for the voucher (so i am told by them).

Thanks,
Sarah

I just got off of the phone to MBNA ho called me back after I logged a complaint about lack of Premium Economy upgrades appearing.

My card anniversary is January and I converted to AmEx in August. I was told that because I converted to AmEx from Mastercard that the counter resets for the upgrades and that I needed to spend 10k between August and December to qualify. However, the companion voucher has been issued as that did roll over from Mastercard to AmEx.

Does this sound right or I am I being fobbed off?

Sounds like you're being fobbed off - no surprise as we're talking MBNA here. Like you I converted from the MC to AMEX in August. I received a VAA Credit Card Companion Flight Qualification that same month (23rd Aug) so, as you say, this was clearly rolled over from the MC, then I received a VAA Credit Card Econ>Premium Reward Upgrade on 8th Nov and then a second VAA Credit Card Companion Flight Qualification on 21st Feb.

Cheers

Typical, any other stories like this would be useful, I'm looking through terms now to see if I can find a reference to say its rolled over so I can get back to them!

Let me know if you get anywhere. I also received the companion voucher in August but no PE upgrade vouchers yet, its annoying that they entice you to stick with a VA card and then squirm their way out of giving you what you are entitled to [:(!]

I have qualified for one of these vouchers at least twice over, when do I get one or am I supposed to request it?

They will appear on your Flying Club statement automatically. You can check your statement on line to see if they are there.
If they aren't and you have spent the necessary money, you may have to ring MBNA.. in which case, I wish you the best of luck. [:0]

Last time i called MBNA inquiring about mine, i was told that i'd get them on my original card anniversary date. Note, this is the original Mastercard anniversary, not the new AmEx. I am now completely confused. I cant remember when my Mastercard anniversary is, i thought it was around Summer time, and besides which i cant see why that has any bearing.

I dont really need the vouchers, though its not good that MBNA cannot seem to provide a clear answer as last time i was told that i'd get the upgrade vouchers after spending the required amount. Now they tell me that i'll get the vouchers at my anniversary date, though the companion vouchers are issued straight away.

I'm still thinking of cancelling the card in June, so not too sure what would happen in that case.

Thanks,
Sarah

Just an update to this thread - two one way upgrades to PE have been added to my FF account. My Amex anniversary is July but but my original MC anniversary is May - so it seems they have actually got it right according to Sarah's latest info.

As I can't get UC rewards in UC at all and am going to use the miles to buy 6 economy fares for my sons and their girlfriends.

Will be trying to use them once I return to the UK so they may be fighting over who gets to sit in PE.
