Edit: Yup it was Ryanair, stopped on the 3rd June this year after doing the STN-BLK route since 2003
I assume that FR did okay while the WCML from Euston was in a state of disarray with frequent "bustitution" during the engineering works to modernise the line. Now that most of the highly disruptive work is completed giving shorter journey times, and the increased airline security took hold, the train became more attractive, I assume that the yields just don't fall within FR's requirements.
Like Enron had a policy of cutting it's "poorest performing" staff (though that process turned out to be flawed, but that's a different discussion), FR seems to have a policy of ditching it's bottom 3-5 underperforming routes, every so often.
