Eurostar Paris - St Pancras

Did it in 2hr 3min today - cheating a little at 202mph in France and 195 in England but all the same, very impressive. Regular time is 2h 15m from next month.

Me too, however as a South Londoner the extra time to St Pancras will make a difference. But ... congratulations to all involved, St P looks a marvellous station, the engineering is a triumph (must stop maligning ourselves so much) and the journey time is sure to put an extra nail in the coffins of flying from London to Paris (ahhhh that's how Air France can launch services to the US then ).

True, but schlepping to St Pancras will more more iritating that going to Waterloo. We'll probably drive to the Ebbsfleet terminal and go from there in fact, first trip already booked!) Be quicker and cheaper, when we factor in the cost of train/tube travel to and from Waterloo.

Relocation will obviously benefit those in the new catchment area and for the first time I can get to my apartment in Paris from my home in just over 3hrs, door to door, saving at least 30 mins off current timings. Here's how from this November;

Drive to station: 2 mins
Wait for tube train: up to 5 mins
Tube to King's Cross St Pancras: 15 mins
Transfer from tube station to St Pancras Int'l: 3 mins
Check-in: 10 mins before departure
St Pancras - Paris: 2hrs 15mins (distance by rail is 306 miles)
Transfer from Eurostar to RER suburban rail: 5 mins
RER 2 stops: 8 mins
Walk to apartment: 5 mins

Total journey time: 3hrs 08 mins

I will be on the 09.25 departure to Paris on Saturday 17th November and I will be arriving a little earlier than usual so I can check out the new facilities in the terminal.

I am looking forward to using it from Kings Cross, as that is where I work, so great for me going straight from work, but live in SW London so not that great for returning.

However at King's Cross will have the longest Champagne Bar in Europe, look forward to having a few Champers there! [^]

You got it Chuck! I have had a little "go" on a Eurostar but my day to day life on the rails is much less glamourous. Actually driving that type of train can become rather mundane after a while (same type/same route every day).

My lot is Royal Mail (I'm setting off from Scotland with one in 60 mins), freight and the occasional chartered passenger train which I find equally interesting.
