After a spate of nightmarish service disruptions, American Airlines, JetBlue Airways and others are sending out more apologies, hoping to head off customer complaints and quell talk of new consumer-protection regulations from Congress.

This was inevitable, given the continuing problems of flyers being ignored/stranded. This weekend there was another big snowstorm on the East Coast and more pax were stranded as airplanes sat on runways.

That the threat of legislative interference was required in order to get the airlines off their collective ***es is but one more reason why the weak shall not survive the ongoing industry consolidation.

Everytime there is a melt down over here we hear all the airlines start screaming about setting up their own pax bill of rights type thing.

I have flown most of the major airlines over here and there are only two that I can remember stepping up and taking care of me when the crap has hit the fan, they would be Southwest and CO, as such they get the majority of my money, I tried DL last year after taking a break for a while, they proved to be a total waste of space.

So we shall see, the only thing I see is airlines running to hide behind stuff they would be considered not their fault and try to lay the blame off as quickly as possible.
