The Pox!

mdvipond jr. has just been sent home from nursery with suspected chickenpox which, if confirmed, will probably put a dampener on her birthday celebrations this weekend.

However, from a much more selfish point of view, can you catch chickenpox if you've had it already?

It is possible to be infected again although very rare and the symptoms will be milder.

Hope the little one feels better soon and hopefully as she's so young she won't suffer too much, I know mine didn't.

Stock up on the Calamine lotion.

Thanks Jilly. The-now Mrs. mdvipond has already picked up the calamine on the way home!

One thing that happens over here is all the parents gather the kids together when one has chicken pox etc so they can just get it over with.

Could make the birthday bash interesting...

Anyways [:#] for Jr, she is to cute to go through this.

Exactly what my family used to do, only i evaded the dreaded illness until i was 13 - and boy was it painful.

Decker, thanks for the link, but as a registered hypochondriac I'm not really supposed to look at medical related websites (mainly due to the fact that I convince myself I have whatever I'm reading about). And shingles does not look like a boat load of fun.

Oh, and GJ, your invite to jr.'s 2nd birthday party has been rescinded until you're quite sure you're clear of your little 'friends'...

Just about everyone gets chicken pox and, as it's much milder when you're young, this is probably the best age to get it. Having said that, I hope jr. fells better[:X]

Sorry to hear about juniors affliction, But shes probubally at the best age to get it.
Thought i would just give a quick suggestion to help Junior through the itchness.

Colloidal Oatmeal which you can get from healt shops in a powder for for the bath will help with itching.

Also a good smearing of natural honey on the sores will help them heal quicker.

I am sure you have already cut the little ones nails right back.

I hope the above suggestions are usefull to you and along with the calamine and parecetamol will get Junior back on her feet soon.

I don't know. I think you should be going round in sackcloth and ashes with a little bell, calling, "Unclean! Unclean!"

Well if nothing else it will give the good citizens of Leeds something to chuckle about and also take mdvipond jr's mind of her itching. Mind you, you will have to share the calamine - sackcloth is so scratchy, I hear

I am sure you can get it more than once, as I have had it twice!! Hope the little one gets better soon, and you both don't get it!

Poor thing. Hope mdvipond junior is feeling better soon. My younger sister kindly gave me chickenpox when I was 18! It's unbelievable where those spots can go [:w]

Well, we're receiving reports now from the mdvipond estate that the spots which led to mdvipond jr. being sent home from nursery yesterday are no worse, nor have they spread. I repeat the spots are no worse.

The results of tests being carried out by the government's top scientists have yet to released but we can tell you that current speculation suggests that mdvipond jr.'s nursery over-reacted to what may yet turn out to be - and I quote - "a bit of a rash".

mdvipond and the-now Mrs. mdvipond have released a statement extending their heartfelt thanks to the well-wishers massing outside the gates of the estate, and for the kind suggestions in the use of honey, calomine and sack-cloth.

Rest assured, as with all Breaking News stories, we'll be updating you every 10 minutes regardless of whether anything has actually changed or not.

Sounds like the nursery may have an outbreak of Foot and Mouth.
to which there is only one known cure "put a sock in it"

Just posting in this thread is making me a bit nervous....just over 30 and never had the chickenpox. How ironic that I just called a doctor on Monday and am awaiting news of getting a vaccine.
