All part of my encroaching mid-life crisis, but I've just been looking through the contents of my iPod (around 2500 tracks or so) and, eclectic as I like to think that my tastes are, there's not a great deal on there from the '00s.

As I say, may tastes are pretty wide ranging: Crowded House to Led Zepplin, Magic Numbers to Jimi Hendrix, Turin Brakes to the Beautifu South, Joe Dolce to René and Renatta (spot the odd one out?). Surely there's some half decent music from the last 7 years that I'm missing out on. Or have I just turned into my dad...?

Good question. View/View Options/tick the Year box. Now that I've done it, it's really quite depressing how much dross I've got from the 80s.

Mark, I have 806 songs from 2000 to date, pretty diverse; Amy Winehouse, Paul Weller, Freddie Mercury (RIP), Gloria Estefan, K.D. Lang, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow, Eva Cassidy (RIP), Jamie Cullum, Sting, Tina Turner, Franz Ferdinand, Guns 'n Roses, Scissor Sisters, Il Divo, Katherine Jenkins, Jamiroquai, David Gilmour, James Morrison, Nina Simone, Michael BublŽ and more.

Can't imagine you wouldn't find something amongst that lot that you would like?

Hmm not a lot in 2007 - DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kit & The Widow, Lily Allen and Snoop Dog
2006 was a bit more productive - Eminem, Public Enemy, The Feeling, Fink, The Knife, Ludacris, Martin Stadtfield (Bach), Mr Odeneho, Snoop Dog, Sparks, The Streets, Sway.

Must admit my tastes do remain a little more old school most of the time... which tempts me to an embarrasing thread... what's your top ten in iTunes - no cheating :)

1590 from 2000 to date

Gentleman, there are more than a few artists matching my own iTunes offerings in those lists.

Bazz - I'm going to be honest with you here - Gloria Estefan, Rod Stewart, Eva Cassidy, Sting, Tina Turner, Il Divo, Katherine Jenkins, David Gilmour and Nina Simone probably won't be heralded as the cream of 00s artists in years to come, outstanding as they undoubtedly are. To be fair, less the Il Divo/Katherine Jenkins (why!?!), most of them crop up on my iPod once or twice.

Decker - The Feeling are rather good, they need to be added to my collection forthwith. Never heard of Fink, The Knife or Ludacris, but they sound mighty cool so I'm going to track them down on iTunes. One question - will this make me down with the kids?

And how do you do an iTunes top 10?

By just asking that question, the answer is a great big NO:D

The Radio One live lounge CD has a pretty good mix of live versions of songs - about half of which are cover versions.

Dagnabit! That probably means I've got to hand my hoody in now, doesn't it?

Radio 1? Are they still going? More imporatantly, is Bruno Brookes still doing the chart show? Thanks, oxmatt, will check that out - compilations can be quite good iPod fodder when you've got it on 'shuffle'.

Old people and hoodies are almost as bad to see as socks and sandals[V]

Agree with Oxmatt the Radio 1 live lounge album is very good, still love the Will Young - Hey Ya version. Some of the cover done in the live lounge this year have been legendary, hope they bring another album out.

Old people? OLD PEOPLE?? I've only just turned 37, for crying out loud! That may well be the average life expectancy in Hull, but over here in Leeds it's still classed as positively sprightly ;)

Not that you'd catch me dead in a hoody anyway...

I've caught a few of the covers they've been doing on Radio 1 this week. Rather good, some of them. Mind you, the old songs are always the best...

The covers this week have been special ones due to Radio1 birthday, the usual ones are done during the Jo Whiley show just after 12, well worth a listen if you like the current radio1 play list artists doing some interesting takes on some recent classic hits.

Jo Whiley? What happened to Annie Nightingale?

Speaking of Radio 1's birthday, I've rather been enjoying the return of the Golden Hour on the breakfast show this week.

Annie Nightingale still presents on Radio 1, Monday morning 2am-4am! Worth a listen if Mdvipond Jr. is acting up one night (or on listen again like I do!)

Not a huge Moyles fan and always busy at work for his show, much prefer Scott Mills.

They sure are bringing out another album. The legend that is Jo Whiley was talking about it the other day on air. I believe one of the tracks will be the excellent cover by Editors (note not The Editors) of the Calvin Harris track Acceptable in the 80's.

Agree whole heartedly. Jo Whiley's show between 10 and 12.45 each day is a brilliant show. Often has a lot of new music which is just fantastic.

I hate to admit that I hardly any songs from pre 2000- I have about 200 songs from pre 2000.

As for new music if you go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 they have good up and coming talent.

Annie Nightingale still going? She must be older than my gran.

Thank you, Will, I'll check out the Radio 1 website - but you must up your quotient of pre-2000 material. Sooo much good music you're missing out on.

After hearing 'The Streets' absolutely ruin Elton's masterpiece of Your Song this morning, I'm not convinced by Live Lounge. Bastard.

Thanks,

Christ. I bet that was one worth missing.

What next? Maybe Eminem could do 'Tiny Dancer'?

One bad Egg and all that!

The reason The Streets ruined a classic is because they are rubbish, the most over rated group of this century.

LOL! [:o)]

My mix of music on my iPod is a bit varied. Got some old stuff (Pink Floyd, Spandau Ballet, A-ha), mixed with some new stuff (The Hoosiers, Gym Class Heroes, Kasabian) and a few bands who have been releasing material for a long time (U2, Oasis, R.E.M.) and soundtracks from The Thomas Crown Affair, BBC World and the Premiership Theme Tune.

Chris Moyles...overrated, overpaid, too much up his own ar$Û, too much talk, and a general arrogant ****. Therefore I listen to Adam at Breakfast on 97.4 Rock FM on the drive up to college in mornings.
