Just a bit of a rant so please feel free to bitch about car rental companies as well.

So we get to the Avis lot at Burbank at 8pm last friday, reservation says 8pm pick up, I am Avis first..so wheres my car ?

The guy behind the counter looks at me like I am from Mars..lot's of nice envelopes hanging on the wall behind the counter, just not mine...

He starts thumping at the computer in total confusion...I glance down at his daily print out and there I am..one of three Avis firsts picking up that day.

I point it out to him and he asks if I am Avis proffered [:0]

At this point I am a little tired, so maybe I kind of jumped the gun...but I say "no I am not Avis Preffered, I am Avis First, your top tier, the people that rent the most (had to throw in) and get the two cat upgrade as standard."

to which I get an "oh"

From this point H will be him, M will be me

H "well I need your credit card"
M "no you don't"
H "Yes I need it to do the rental"
M "No you don't"
H blank look "well how would you like to pay for this then?"
M "Please press the big green enter button or find me someone who knows what they are doing"
H "I can't press the enter button till I enter the cc info"
M "Hit the button or I will hit the button"

He breaks under the pressure and hits the enter button..then stands amazed as the the contract prints out...oh the wonders of having everything on file...

At this point he tries to make up for everything....and almost makes it..a nice upgrade [y]

We ended up with a Pontiac Grand Prix GXP...who the heck knew Avis carried the GXP [?]

Only to find that it was parked in spot B49...out of 50...if it wasn't for the fact that I was having nice thoughts about abusing the heck out of the car I would of started throwing my toys...

Anyways...the moral...train your staff so they know what the heck they are doing.

Loyalty cards are everywhere, train them to know the benefits of the top tiers...or I WILL start throwing my toys.

I hate having to ask for benefits that my one status card - Diamond HHonors- is supposed to entitle me. I've sometimes wondered whether it's a cynical exercise to see what they can get away with as it'll save them a few bob. So frequent was it at the S**th*mpt*n H*lt*n that we developed a phrase for the visit to reception to enquire about the benefits, to whit: "I had to go wallet slapping this evening".

I hear you, Scrooge! Even as an Avis President's Club member I've had the occasional goof.

But you gotta like BUR!

But Chuck as the holder of a corporate gift card can you expect anything less, you have not shown your true allegiance to the Avis flag [:p]

Yes you have to love BUR, being able to board the plane from front and rear, actually being able to walk on the ramp, working the Southwest system so every other flight to Sacramento is free [y], five minutes from getting off the plane to being outside...love that place...oh and there is a Frys right next door [y]
