Our Government (UK) tells us that in 25 years, 50% of us will have inherited the obesity gene (several months ago, the reason why people are overweight and so it is not their fault).
There is evolution on a rapid scale for you.

I think its more a case of the modern world growing at a pace faster than evolution. Natural selection takes hundreds of thousands of years, franchises of McDonalds and Dippin' Dots can crop up overnight. :)

Thanks,

""Gene" sounds like a government euphimism to me;)

Don't even get me started on political parties playing the obesity card at a time when they are trying to cut down on the number of trainee PE Teachers.

I heard on the radio that the the effects of the obesity crisis will be on the same scale as global warming - slight overestimate I should think...[ii]

Lets examine that ....

Obese people eat more and excercise less, or so we are told.
If they eat more, then we need to grow more food, and therefore more emissions from the machines to harvest it, through to transportation.
More Carbon = Warmer Climate
Warmer Climate leads to people exercising less, as it's too hot, as they excercise less the get bigger.

I can see the link (sort of ;-) )
