SIA -The New F Suites for A380

I disagree.

The J cabin looks cramped in layout (it may be the biggest seat/bed, but WOW, they pack them in!)

Beyond that, the F cabin looks rather "quaint" or even dated in my book, especially bearing in mind this is BRAND NEW for 2007. As the "first to fly the A380", they COULD have done something really special here, but opted to stick with the norm (at best).

Those suites look interesting! I see the bed in business class has to be flipped over similar to VS arrangement so I guess they have gone for a dual material finish too, leather for the seat and them some breathable fabric for the bed?

Not overly impressed, the seat looks very similar if not the same to the one they have in their 77w's ?

As preiffer though the seats are big, the aisles are tiny, maybe this is just the video distorting them, but the cabin does look cramped.

I was watching Euronews last night and they had a camera on board and it showed in the middle two seats being made up as a double bed for couples travelling together - Could be very interesting indeed !!!

From the videos I couldn't work out how it converts into a double bed does the center partition retract in the floor or do the beds raise to the hight of the partition or a combination of both.[?]

It will be interesting to see what BA do with their cabins.

Are they just going to recycle NNNCW again or go for something different?

Also of course BA 1st is due for a major revamp.

Jag , I don not have an idea to be very honest how it converts into a double bed.It just showed what "looked " like a double bed - Maybe it was the two and as you said the partition lowers down to the bed level and then "looks" like a double. I still think the F looks very impressive. As for the business class I think even though looks cramped the individual apace and privat area looks superb

I hope BA don't go for this enclosed cabin type design I like to see whats happening around me.As Howard remarked in one of his EK reports you have to ding the crew for everything so you have no interaction.

Incidentally BA did produce a mock-up design of a demi-cabin but it lost out to the current F approx 10 years ago.My mate said it looked quite good think it had a round window in the door and was all wood veneered.

In some of the pics / fortage the middle F seats are separated by a beige wall / divide. I just assumed the divide slides down out the way.

It looks as though most of the F cabins are going the "private cabana" route - EK + BA NCW + Now SIA

I'd be of the same view (no pun intended) as I too like to see what's happening around me.

I agree, whilst I would like to try this kind of cabin, the whole First area has the ambience of a capsule hotel. Its probably great for sleeping, but as I can only afford a first flight with the regularity of Haley's Comet bypass I would like to be awake as much as possible to make the most of the opulence.

I just like people watching too, I guess.

After my recent trip on Virgin and listening to the "VS not good enough brigade" on board maybe a private cabin would be fantastic.

I think these days more and more people are flying in F and J and are looking for the "nights sleep" so maybe thats why we are seeing the private cabins being introduced - I would love maybe a choice - If you F you know you will have a private cabin and if you fly J is more open like VS. It would then be up to the flyer to book whatever he prefers for his/her flight.[^]

Airlines do seem to be now going down both routes in premium class travel ie enclosed private cabins or the usual open plan cabin design.

I think it's all down to demographics and culture. Some cultures prefer the private cabin way of travelling whilst others prefer the usual open plan option.

Maybe it's time for airlines to start offering both options on their aricraft, that way pax can choose.

In a way VS do offer both options now as you have the option of just sitting in your suite and keeping yourself to yourself or you can get up and interact with crew and other pax at the bar area.

I'm not sure I'd like to be stuck in a box for a 13 hour flight with only my IFE for company, even if I'm travelling alone.

I am surprised that SQ haven't got a lounge area for First pax, thought with a huge aircraft that this would of been included. I am not overly impressed with their new cabin. However wouldn't turn it down.....

Looks crap to me.

F looks claustrophobic and biz even worse.

well I knew we would hit new heights with the mile high club ---- to be very honest if I was travelling with my wife or a collegue the seats in the middle are brilliant. You can have your own private cabin. With you wife/ girlfriend it would be fantastic and with your business partner / friend you own private room to bet "pissde". Now I do agree that there should be a bar / sitting lounge but maybe there is and its just not announced as yet as I would think we are being fed bit by bit at the moment in the lead up to the first flight.

Dominic, I wasn't aware that various airlines' A380s and their F cabins were filling the skies as we speak -- I shall have to pay closer attention and avail myself of all the F cabins that exist. [:?]

And I'm speaking in future tense when I mention MHC...I have only 1/2 joined that esteemed institution...happy to provide details in a PM.

Well All I know Jack is AIG dont fly either - Cant wait to try out Cathay in a weeks time to Taipei - Pity no PJs in J but at least coming home in F we will. The new Cathay F is also not a (private)cabin though!

Can't decide if I am impressed or not by the new suites. Very last year really- with EK etc now claiming to have them and the likes of EY and Jet not too far behind.

Business looks rather tight but then again that could be a trick of the eye.

Y on the other hand looks fantastic and once again puts the Y of VS to shame. Looks very nice indeed. Now trying to work out how I can get myself on this beauty.
