Companion Ticket Booking

Morning all,

Quick question: my friend (person "A") has a companion ticket reward that he doesn't think he will have the time to use. However, could he book a revenue ticket for someone else (person "B") and then claim the companion ticket to allow person "C" to fly with "B"?

Bottom line, does "A" have to fly when claiming his companion ticket?

Yes they do as the companion has to be on the same flight:

4.3.1.2. Companion tickets and free complimentary companion tickets must be for the same date and flight as that of the paying passenger. The paying passenger is entitled to travel in the same or higher cabin than that of the companion if required, however companion tickets may never be booked into a higher cabin than the revenue ticket holder.

Actually, the answser is no, Person A does not have to fly.

I gave my companion ticket last year to my father so he and his colleague could fly to MCO for work in PE. Those two had to be flying on the same flight, but I wassn't travelling at all.
